There are days I'm torn between TVs tendency to recycle/reboot old ideas vs. trying something new. They do seem to have a similar failure rate.

For a five-year span in the early 90's, every cartoon intro was required to have a dumb character with a bomb materialize at the last second to explode into the main titles.

The Jim Henson Hour, 1989. Jim Henson decided to adapt the Dogs Playing Poker paintings, and spoof film noir.

I'm amazed Henson's company spun this idea out for a three-season run.
