Gate keeping is stupid for fandom but I think there's also a degree of bitterness because a lot of the cosplay community is wilfully blind to the fact that their hobby is only "accepted" and "cool" now -because- there's cute girls doing it, and if you don't fit that it's the same old loser stereotype for you. There's a lot of attractive mostly-white girl privilege taking with the whole "being a nerd is cool now".

The three they picked are cool folks (or at least the two I did meet before and have mutual friends with) but the doc didn't exactly seek out those who don't get the benefit of their looks, girl or guy. It's like asking a millionaire for their opinion of how easy it is to live in America.
