China owns so much US debt they get to use the moon landing set at NASA for free.

exy - 2013-12-16

Landing on the moon? Pssh. Easy. Check this out. We're gonna land on the moon UPSIDE-DOWN.

Oscar Wildcat - 2013-12-16

It's one small step for the Chinese, one giant step for Legomorphs.

memedumpster - 2013-12-17

Chi-ina, fuck yeah!

ashtar. - 2013-12-17

China really needs to strengthen their intellectual property laws to prevent people from just copying things like Ironman 3 or landing on the moon.

Meatsack Jones - 2013-12-17

God I hate to say this and I never thought I would...did they or didn't they. Ten years ago this would be a conspiracy rant. Now though, given the propensity of nations, ad firms, and everyone with a PC being able to CGI or Photoshop it becomes a legitimate question.

I can only hope that the telemetry and tracking from a neutral source confirms this or I am going to be hiding with tinfoil on my head for awhile.

EvilHomer - 2013-12-17

Relax. I'm sure the benevolent government of China is only acting in accordance with the Mandate of Heaven! The terrestrial bureaucracy requires a Celestial Bureaucracy. Reports that the Chinese are building lunar concentration camps for Tibetan freedom fighters, trade unionists, and liberals, are all lies, and those spreading the lies will be dealt with accordingly. Now prepare to have your internet shut down for accessing potentially seditious material. You will be joining the trade unionists on the Moon.

memedumpster - 2013-12-17

You mean like the European Space Agency's ESTrack network which China outsourced to for tracking and operations from the beginning?

You two almost trolled me. You should have seen the block text of profanity I just wrote and erased. I am going to take this shit out on strangers all day now I'm so pissed off.

EvilHomer - 2013-12-17

I'd still like to hear it.

Oscar Wildcat - 2013-12-17

Given the source, it's a legitimate concern. Not sure why Meme is so exercised. It's easy enough to check, perhaps even on an individual basis if you have the kit to receive the transmissions. There was no question about sputnik, just about any ham could receive the telemetry and confirm the results.

EvilHomer - 2013-12-17

Meme is a Chinese agent and he's mad that the PR Op isn't going as smoothly as the General Staff had predicted.

memedumpster - 2013-12-17

I can't even begin to express in words what jingoistic bullshit this is.

memedumpster - 2013-12-17

My comptroller at the ESA is most displeased with me, and now I'll never get to defect to a better country (Wales).

RockBolt - 2013-12-17

NASA should find out pretty quick, they were initially concerned that the landing would foul the measurements being done by the LADEE (Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer) orbiter but they decided that comparing measurements before during and after would be useful science, since it is so sensitive that it should easily detect the exhaust from the lander.

EvilHomer - 2013-12-17

Pointing out that China is a cesspool of big fat liars who lie isn't really jingoism, meme. I love China as much as the next guy - they're basically Bismarck-era Germany, and who doesn't love Victorian capitalism? - but surely you can't object to a little skepticism?
