It's so wild they made a True Blood spinoff about supernatural crime.

TheOtherCapnS - 2014-02-01

There is no part of this show that isn't fantastic.

candyheadrobot - 2014-02-01

Agreed. Mcconaughey and Harrelson have been on a roll these last few years anyway, the two of them performing alongside each other is pretty great.

That guy - 2014-02-01

it's got some great shots in it
3 episodes in, I still don't know what to think

"weird religious serial killer" has been ground to bits, so has "maybe it's the cop" but maybe the show will rise above that

Old People - 2014-02-02

The self-indulgent script and the ridiculous Mary Sue combine to create several non-fantastic moments per episode. If you watch the "making of" bits, you'll see that the writer takes himself very seriously.
Still the best thing to watch now that Breaking Bad is done and GoT is on hiatus, mind you. Plus I love the Mythos references.

TheOtherCapnS - 2014-02-02

McConaughey's character is the Mary Sue? I guess the many character flaws are just thrown in there as a smokescreen so we won't realize that he's actually perfect. Uh...

So the creator, writer, and showrunner of a thriller is supposed to, what, work a pie in the face or pratfall into his interview?

It's fine to disagree, but it almost sounds like you have it in for the guy personally...

I just dislike the way he uses Cohle as a mouthpiece. He tries to leaven it and make it palatable by having Hart call bullshit on him periodically, but the whole philosophy thing gets pretty heavy-handed at times. Overall I think the dialogue is quite good, but there might be subtler, more believable ways to convey Cohle's nihilism than through a monologue every ten minutes.
Life, no matter how grim, is brightened by daily moments of humor. A writer who ignores that isn't creating grim realism, he's indulging in juvenile cynicism. Seriously, watch an interview with the guy- he's clearly been getting his nob slobbed on the reg by peddling his "dark artiste" shit.
Having said that, I do think it's the best thing on TV right now, and cynicism aside, there are many reasons to love it.

About damn time The Handsome Family got some decent exposure.
Five stars for their very existance. I'm sure the show is good too.

infinite zest - 2014-02-01

The Handsome Family got a bit of exposure after Andrew Bird covered "Don't be Scared," but most people thought it was the Handsome Family covering Andrew Bird and not the other way around.

lotsmoreorcs - 2014-02-01

needs Butt tag

lotsmoreorcs - 2014-02-01

or perhaps "Was That A Butt?" tag

Sudan no1 - 2014-02-01

This show is unrealistic, I can't believe there are that many hot hookers in Swampfuck, Lousiana. If they had any sense they would move to LA or Vegas to make more money and escape from the serial killers with antler fetishes.
