The show has its strengths and weaknesses, but this whole bit is amazing.
Just as I expected, so 5 stars.

I think HBO would be wise to either combine with Netflix or create their own sort of Netflix. The only reason I don't watch these shows (unless I download them) is because I don't want to pay for a cable package with 100+ other channels of shit I don't want to watch.
WHO WANTS DESSERT
They want to sell HBO Go by itself but the cable companies aren't letting them
I do and it's called projectfreetv, among others. Caught up to episode 6 now. I haven't really watched a lot of TV shows since Oz, but I think this is hands-down the best show I've ever seen. I just want to financially support things that are as good as this, the same way as I tip a bartender. It's like if the show was not renewed (unlikely at this point, but still) for a second season, I'd hold myself personally responsible.
maybe I should watch this
now if that isn't a recommendation I don't know what is
It might be a little hyperbolic, but only a little.
Also, I haven't seen The Wire so keep that in mind.
Let's just say I no longer miss Breaking Bad.
The Wire was very good, but not as good as Breaking Bad. It's about on Sopranos level - the writing wasn't as clever as The Sopranos, but the show had better pacing and, with the possible exception of Season 2, The Wire rarely ever went up it's own ass. I'd heartily recommend it, OZ.
My current favorite BB-replacement is Vikings. I regret nothing.
Well, I'm up to episode five now, and yeah... bitter burnout who's not as smart as he thinks he is.
I see a few different ways to interpret Cohle:
- He's Agent Cooper as written by someone who thinks "Twin Peaks" wasn't cynical enough.
- He's Abed's eponymous policeman protagonist from "Police Justice" but with substance provided by Professor Hickey.
- He's what happens if you start asking, "What if Sheldon from 'The Big Bang Theory' went into law enforcement?"
But one way I cannot read him is as an infallible author mouthpiece. He's fine-tuned his bleak outlook and it works for him, for certain definitions of "works" anyway, but everything about him is a mess. Even in his future (the present), he's basically an extra from "My Name is Earl".
SPOILER: People don't like child murder, I guess.

Arg, I want to watch this show but I need some time.
