Ocyrus - 2014-03-31
I don't believe that Norm MacDonald was ever funny.
I say that as a man old enough to remember him when he actually had a career.

blue vein steel - 2014-03-31 his podcast with Russel Brand is one of the best things ever
SolRo - 2014-03-31 he also has that xtian persecution complex going. strike two right there.
dairyqueenlatifah - 2014-03-31 If not finding Norm Macdonald funny means you have no sense of humor, then I'm quite proud to proclaim my lack of a sense of humor, because never once has Norm Macdonald said something I found funny.

Jack Dalton - 2014-03-31 I don't care if someone is a crazy wingbat Christian as long as they have something interesting or funny to say. Norm is probably the funniest, irreverent comedian working (when he can get work). He pisses every one off, including some people here-- which makes me love him more.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-03-31 @theSnake
Crazy, sure, but I really don't think it's that hard to come across any trust with the scientific community then simply looking through a microscope.
I just hope the celebrities of Norm's era fade away into obscurity.
Aelric - 2014-04-01 I still think Norm is totally fucking hilarious, but I hate what he claims to believe in and it 'gee, golly' explanations for why (i.e. Scientists were wrong once about the earth being the center of the universe, and now they say it revolves around the sun, so fuck all science because I can't think of science on terms other than as an alternative religion).
It's the duality of art and expression. Without separating the art from the artist, you'll likely just hate everything, because everyone has shitty parts to them, no matter how talented they may be. I had to do this in college so much, when some of the most horrid personalities in my photography classes would produce some of my favorite stuff in the class. Yes, are is an expression of the artist and thus a part of him, but the trick is remembering it's only PART of him.
Alright, I've been zen bullshit enough lately.
baleen - 2014-04-01 He is funny. You are an idiot if you don't find Norm MacDonald funny. This is an objective truth. I'm sorry.

Jesus Christ...
boner - 2014-03-31
Did Larry King actually ask a good question there?'
Also, every time I see Norm I get the sense he's about 5 minutes away from committing suicide.
Old_Zircon - 2014-03-31 The answer to his question is "no" (perhaps a qualified "no") because people already knew it was round years before Christ would have been alive if he was a real person.
RockBolt - 2014-03-31
Oh, I got a chuckle from the title as I perceived it to be a satirical bit he would do. I was wrong.
SteamPoweredKleenex - 2014-03-31
Your career is in a tailspin, nobody hires you anymore, so like a lot of failed comedians or actors, you turn conservative. Fine, make some cash in your twilight years, but Norm...
...you went full retard. You should never go full retard.
boner - 2014-03-31 Christ I hope I'm not in my 'twilight years' by the time I'm 50.

Shoebox Joe - 2014-03-31
Did Norm never go through High School with out looking in a microscope? Holy shit that's a sad thought.
Makes me wonder if Gilbert Gottfried would turn out just as bad if he gave up comedy for another route in the public.
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-03-31 Gilbert's problem was not that he wasn't smart enough or funny enough. He's both, he's just considered atypical for a leading role in terms of looks, which is a shame because comedians should not be judged on looks. He's unique, and he's actually quite intelligent. He's just never been given the breaks other comedians have.
I think part of it is also capitalizing on marketing skills and self promotion. Gilbert was able to cash in on voice overs for a while and he did well with that, but look at some of the comedians even in stand up that make it big these days. Dane Cook, Fluffy, Jeff "I fuck comedy in the ass and laugh" Dunham, Larry the Fake Hick, Katt Williams are all empty as they come and they pack in theaters even though there are dozens of more talented comedians out there.
Norm McDonald never simplified his act and he never bothered to create a real niche for himself. I think he just gave up.
SolRo - 2014-03-31 I probably shouldn't admit this, but I liked dunhams early bits with the purple puppet thing that would verbally abuse him and call him out on stupid things he said. And then he went full retard.
teethsalad - 2014-04-01 i'm pretty sure he's only got a grade 8 education (not a bit, i seem to remember reading he dropped out real early)
Prickly Pete - 2014-03-31
Idk how aware of this you guys are, but Norm is a full blown mad man. Fortunately it doesn't manifest itself in his comedy, which I respect, but he has said things on twitter that genuinely make me concerned that he's on drugs. I mean he's a little older, it's perfectly plausible that he's on prescriptions that make him a bit loopy, but SOMETHING is going on with that guy.
Also, this doesn't matter that much to me because he's entitled to his opinions, but fyi: he is MAJORLY against abortion rights. Just throwing that out there.
Binro the Heretic - 2014-03-31
This made me so very sad.
TheSupafly - 2014-03-31
Even the crazy things he believes are hilarious. Nothing about him isn't funny.
SolRo - 2014-03-31 eh, there are plenty of unfunny moments.
Hooker - 2014-03-31
THESNAKE has the most reasonable, balanced reaction to this. Jesus Christ, people. He's not even saying DNA is false; he's saying he doesn't understand it.
SolRo - 2014-03-31 he also says he doesn't believe in science because geo-centrism existed (and credits "scientists" for it, which is its own subset of stupid xtian ignorance) and then got disproven, so he concludes all or most science is wrong.
He's going out of his way to say he's a fundie, I think you're just in denial.
Hooker - 2014-03-31 He's _clearly_ trying as hard as he can to explain that he's a Christian fundamentalist, yes.
Noober - 2014-03-31
He's just trying to say that belief is something you "know" and faith is something you accept.
Anyway, five stars for Norm.

gravelstudios - 2014-04-01
Just yesterday I started reading "The Demon Haunted World" by Carl Sagan. I'm sure this is making him spin in his grave. If you, you know, believe in that sort of thing.
Enjoy - 2014-04-01
I can't imagine judging the value of a comedian by a few personal opinions he holds. Oh wait, that's right! I'm not a leftwing nutjob.
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-04-01 It's not a "haha he's a conservative" thing for me as much as "haha he really doesn't know anything, holy shit is he stupid."
Rodents of Unusual Size - 2014-04-01 I mean, I don't laugh at him for being pro life but I will sure as fuck laugh at him for thinking that Earth being at the center of the universe was an idea advanced by scientific theory. Or that DNA can be refuted.
Shoebox Joe - 2014-04-01 I'll admit that this does put a damper on my enjoyment of Norm, but it's juxtaposed with me feeling more and more disheartened with antagonistic funny men.
Strange enough, Jerry's interview with Howard Stern on his Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee was a bit uplifting on personal achievement.

joelkazoo - 2014-04-01
I'm just going to pretend this is him being a troll because that's what I hope against hopes he's doing.
Riskbreaker - 2014-04-01
The guy is funny, but you guys need to face the truth: he believes in some very stupid shit. He's a regular guest with Dennis Miller for a reason.
John Holmes Motherfucker - 2014-04-01
I DO think Norm McDonald is funny, DO NOT think you're an idiot if you disagree and DO NOT KNOW what the happened to his face to make him look so fucked up.
Didn't watch the clip.
John Holmes Motherfucker - 2023-11-08
Well, NOW I've watched the clip, and I think what he's actually saying about faith is pretty insightful, if somewhat confusing. He's NOT saying that he doesn't think DNA exists.
