That being said, I'm pretty disturbed. WHAT THE FUCK? I remember the American version of Xuxa, where she had some animal friends that were dudes in costumes (one was a panda bear). It was indeed a show aimed at very young children. This is in Brazil though, so maybe all those kids dancing in the audience don't know enough English to understand and just like the sound of it?

Either way, I don't know how Xuxa or Gillette thought this was a cool thing to do. But all the kids seem to know the song already so...hmm, Brazil, you crazy.

I only know about Xuxa's call girl service through the B movie grapevine, so it could easily be a myth but she definitely did make a movie in the early 80s that featured a graphic sex scene between her and a 12 year old boy, and that was scandal enough to mess up her career.

My guess is that either none of the kids could understand English, or Brazil is so over-saturated with sexiness that this is considered family fare. Probably both.

I have a Brazilian pressing of one of Xuxa's 80s children's music records that I found at a record store years ago before I knew anything about her. She's wearing a VERY see-through top on the cover.

Xuxa's kind of like a bizarro Cicciolina, in that instead of doing a creepy little-girl character for porn audiences she does a creepy porn-ish character for kids. Regardless of what's truth and what's fiction, there's something really sketchy about her whole thing and I really have trouble believing that it can be completely written off to cultural differences.

I bet the "prostitution ring" thing is people conflating Xuxa's scandal with the whole Gloria Trevi debacle, since they happened around the same time and it'd be just like Americans to not know the difference between a Brazilian and a Mexican.

There was a radio edit version that changed the lyrics to "short, short man" which she could have been performing; maybe someone just dubbed the regular version over the footage. But maybe not. And even that's still kind of messed up.

Yeah, until this very moment I only knew it as "short short man.." I think I remember the girls on the playground saying "dick" but I always thought that was just a playground parody or something. The thing that makes it almost definitely real is the acoustics, that's clearly the sound of the song being played through the studio PA. Maybe she expected the radio edit and someone in the studio played the dirty version?

Years ago I had the pleasure of seeing Andre Williams at a free music festival, which was at least half-filled with parents and their children, and after a few of his classics goes right into "Pussy Stinks but So Does Marijuana."
