He makes something of a point, but my immediate response would be "Who recognizes the flag of ISIS?"

I mean, wasn't there a video on here years ago where they refused to make a Nazi flag cake? I think it had something to do with that family that named their daughter Hitler.

Yeah it's weird. I've known some pretty cool southern people who are just really into the music and cultural heritage in general, and the flag kinda comes along with that. My mom's best friend was engaged to a guy who was proud of his fallen father at the hands of the allies and kept his dad's SS uniform; as the story goes he wore it out when they were backpacking in Austria and that was enough to call the wedding off. Other than that one fuckup he seemed like the perfect guy.

But I've got people in my ancestry who died for the confederate flag too, and people who owned slaves too no shit. My ancestral name is a Norwegian tank company whom I'm related to that made tanks for the goddamn nazis.. well officially they made tanks for everyobdy they didn't care but then again I don't either. But I'm not fucking proud of that. Daddy died a proud man because he was your daddy, not because of what he thought he was fighting for at the time. :)

Hey, slave labor and technology are the bedrock of our economy you pinko.

Although to be fair, IBM weren't actually Nazis, they were just opportunistic Nazi collaborators, and the CEO's son was a bomber pilot in WWII so that makes up for them providing the cataloging systems and on-site technical support for the Nazi concentration camps, right?

"Yeah, he'a great guy, he just loves swastikas."

Say that sentence outloud in a natural, non-sarcastic voice. Go on. Just say it without hint of insincerity.

You can't. And that's why saying "the Confederate flag is not directly related to slavery" is every bit as stupid and dishonest. Supporting that flag means supporting slavery. They are inextricably linked, and if you think otherwise, you don't know a goddamned thing about history.

Timely!

Macho Nacho - 2015-06-27
Did they eat the cake afterwards?
infinite zest - 2015-06-27
It's a walmart cake so probably not. 10 steel reserves and you're just not hungry anymore. Most likely it was eaten by bees and crows.

The Mothership - 2015-06-27
I'm willing to wager cash money that they destroyed the cake symbolically somehow, either with explosives or firearms.

If he remembers he bought it..

gravelstudios - 2015-06-28
I don't even wanna think about what all that black frosting would do to your poop. You'd think you were dying.

infinite zest - 2015-06-28
The worst is eating beets. I avoided beets when I was a kid but suddenly loved and worked with them when I was in my mid-20s and was a webMD hypochondriac. I seem to feel fine but I'm shitting red! webMD: you're probably about to die.

boner - 2015-06-28
They symbolically diarrhea'd the cake.

Gmork - 2015-06-28
The powdered juice mix I've been drinking has turned my poop bright, bright panda green.

He just wants a General Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi car for his kids. It comes with Mo, Haluk, and Allah-May action figures.

^_^ makes you wonder though if classic TV channels are going to get rid of Dukes of Hazard reruns as fast as they pulled Bill Cosby

EvilHomer - 2015-06-28
I would actually love to own a Dodge Charger painted in ISIS livery. Not even being ironic here; I enjoy Dukes of Hazzard (ironically), and I respect ISIS' pluckiness (about 30-70 ironic-unironic). Plus they've got a kick-ass color scheme!

If I had access to millions of dollars in federally subsidized art grants, I think I'd make a whole series of painted Dodge Chargers - 'Murica Charger, Gay Charger, Nuwabian Nation Charger, Fluttershy Charger (with YAY horn). But my favorite would be ISIS Charger.

Maybe I would lease them out to The CW, so the network could make a secret agent cop show, starring my Chargers as super-intelligent AI cars that fight terrorism by running it over.

There was this guy in Milwaukee who drove around in this car, Brother Ron.

http://tinyurl.com/odv29fw

And the rest of the time he preachbusked outside of the theatre I worked. I guess it's the opposite message of ISIS, but somehow I feel that he'd get along with them.

When you honk the horn can it play the Attack on Titan theme song?

infinite zest - 2015-06-28
Also I would watch that show, and write for it. Can the cars live in a Ketamine factory? And can they talk or is the whole thing just music and no dialogue because I've got car puns up the wazoo

EvilHomer - dedicated to being a clown pre-emptively so nobody can hurt his feelings when they call him one.

I actually kind of respect that.

Oh! I know this one! Stores don't spend time making exhaustive lists of things they won't do. They just have a list and add things as they come up.

What do I win?

The repression of political symbols is ethically wrong regardless of the context. The selective repression of political symbols, attacking some but not others, is wrong AND discriminatory, possibly illegally so. Selectively repressing political symbols, while condoning the use of different symbols which (most would argue) carry far more negative and timely connotations, is wrong, discriminatory, hypocritical, and frankly just plain stupid.

That said, it's *WalMart*, and when has WalMart ever been known to act in a moral or socially just manner? WalMart is successful mostly due to shady business practices (which allow it to undersell the competition) and the apathy of the underclasses (who would understandably prefer getting their goods cheaply, to paying more to buy from a socially just vendor). If WalMart does stuff like this, raising the consciousness of the proles and promptly alienating them, that can really only be a good thing in the long run.

It's more the timeliness than anything else. In the wake of recent events sending a message like that, confectionery or otherwise, is kind of like trying to walk through airport security with a pair of shoes on that say "SHOES NOT BOMBS." You'll still have to take them off and you can't have your cake.

PegLegPete - 2015-06-28
First of all, it could just be ignorance; the guy may not have told them "I want an ISIS flag." he could've just shown them a picture and said "I want this." and the people at Walmart had no idea what the ISIS flag looked like. Or they might not have known what ISIS is - it's possible.

I'm not trying to be too apologetic, but the Confederate flag means a hell of a lot more to this country than ISIS ever will - that is until they start carrying out successful terrorist attacks in the US. Also the timing and the fact that the Confederate flag is practically a symbol of a war fought over racial slavery, among many other things. Maybe you could do the same thing in Germany with the Nazi flag and an ISIS flag?

Cakes are the new ethical barometer for our culture.

Yeah I thought that sudden trend was weird too.

Was it Amy's Bakery that set it off?
