Im guessing an electric racecar gets amazing balance compared to IC as all the heavy stuff (batteries, motors) can be evenly distributed on the very bottom of the car. Also do they save weight by not bothering with a driveshaft and gearbox?
It makes sense that electric cars would at some point dominate this. Electric vehicles have immediate and complete torque output, so regardless of the speed of the engine you will always have max power output. Oppositely, gas engines are fairly inefficient at different speeds and their specs are usually at an optimal RPM, so they don't accelerate consistently at different speeds. As a result an electric car will outperform in acceleration and power output compared a gasoline vehicle with comparable horsepower or torque. This eventually reaches a practical barrier as it is easier given other considerations of performance to make an electric car like this with around 600 horsepower compared to making a gasoline powered car with comparable performance, which likely would need to be around 850 to 900 horsepower.
Also even a coal-powered EV still has a lower carbon footprint and overall emissions than an efficient gas car, even as abysmal as coal power plants are.
