It's so hard not to love the guy. I never once got swept up in Obamania (I supported Hilary back then!), but God damn.
I think the best thing about Bernie, aside from the overblown Jewish caricature, is that he is clearly a fighter. I think Obama thought he was a fighter and the weight of political realities wore him down (and pretty fast, too). That clearly won't happen to Bernie, for better or worse, if he manages to somehow make it to the White House.
Obama was never a fighter at heart; he was always a community organizer by nature. I would say that helped him a lot more than being a "fighter" would, because the president has no power to "fight" an unwilling Congress, but a community organizer can perform acts of diplomacy that would elude "fighters".
In 2005 Obama voted against the confirmation of John Roberts, but he also wrote about the dangers of treating that vote (or other votes) as litmus tests that allow you question the other guy's liberal bona fides:
Why don't you just vote for Jill Stein anyway? Your vote doesn't count for anything; it's purely symbolic and will not effect political reality in the slightest. If you're going to take time out of your day to engage in the ritual of nation-statehood, you might as well listen to your conscience and vote for whichever master would make you the most happy!
