Seems fun, but the rusty hinge noises and lack of actually racing are killing me as I watch this.

take yourself back to a time when you were amazed your Soundblaster could make such noises

I'd love for this to become some sort of extra mode in Rocket League.

Zesty I have a tangential and serious question for you:

Years ago you made a quip about eating beans and rice out of a waffle cone. Do you still do that? I have to know, as every time I see your name I think "beans and rice in a waffle cone".

This game totally holds up. It was always a shame to me that the GTA franchise took off so heavily and Carmageddon languishes in obscurity.

For the buying demographics of both these games 'crime power fantasy' is a lot more appealing than 'goofy demolition derby'

It did spawn some really great clones, though, like Interstate 76, Vigilante 8, and RoadKill (which was amazing, but undersold and got losts in the mists of time).

There was a new Carmageddon game that came out a few years ago (and just got re-released on consoles recently), but I heard pretty mixed things about it, never played it myself. It seemed to be one of those nostalgia fueled kickstarter things that takes 10 years to make and turns out to be basically meh.

Mister Yuck
Vigilante 8 cannot be described as 'great' by any stretch. Even 10 year old me wasn't impressed.

Interstate 76 was crazy fun though.

Raggamuffin
It's no Top Gear Overdrive though. You can pick a car if you want, but other options included a taco with tomatoes for wheels, and a taxidermy horse in a glass box (?).

StanleyPain
I dunno, I loved Vigilante 8 on the N64. The sequel and the HD remake a few years back were fucking awful, though.

Scrimmjob
The new carmageddon is a pretty faithful remake, right down to the shittest controls ever, designed to work well with a keyboard. With that being said, if you enjoyed the old ones, you'll probably like the new one.

Or, you know, you can buy this or Carma1 for $5 on GoG.

This is another one of those games that really kind of sucked in comparison to similar games, but survives as being good in people's memories because they were totally into it's EXTREME ATTITUDE when they were 12.

In addition to the games mentioned above, there were things like the Twisted Metal franchise, Destruction Derby which is dope and you should try out on a PS1 emulator if you haven't heard of it.
