No joke: Our family was rocking a betamax until 1987 at which time we finally switched to VHS. Our first VHS tapes were Clue and Spaceballs. So your claim of "as it should be seen" is 100% correct.

I actually saw Spaceballs in the theater but sicne then I'm not sure if I've ever seen it in a form other than "taped off daytime cable."

I may have seen a DVD rip once in the mid 2000s.

I taped it when the normally-scrambled movie channel had a free preview week.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail was always the worst quality imaginable when they used to show it on TV, I remember a jump cut in the middle of some dialogue where frames were missing. I don't know how they got such a bad print but they showed it for years and years.
