Okay, let me paraphrase what I remember from what I read in the Washington Post. This is by definition hearsay, so don't take me at face value, either.

So you got your Million Moron March, right? Maybe a few ten thousands, actually. And then, a smaller group of morons arrives and starts taunting them, some of them turn over tables and run away, etc. Eventually it gets violent, and the police come and separate them with tear gas, and whatnot. Some of the details may not have been pretty, I don't recall.

I don't know what this guy saw from where he stood, but I doubt that he saw the whole thing, and I really need to know more about how the police DEFENDED armed thugs from peaceful unarmed protestors. How was that necessary, or even possible?

If I'm a cop, and I see an unarmed nonviolent person having an altercation with a violent armed person, and I decide to intervene, almost any possible intervention is going to have the net effect of defending the unarmed nonviolent person.

I don't know where "defund the police" came from, but if you were on the streets in the weeks after George Floyd was killed, it may have seemed like a reasonable alternative to "burn the pigs".

is not, in any known universe, a statement of fact. It's an ironic expression of opinion, and its not really clear what the opinion is. Training is not the answer? Training is not AN answer? Training should not cost money?

I voted against pardoning Joe Arpaio "for just doing his job". I voted against "don't worry about hitting the suspect's head while shoving him in the back of the car". I don't regret that even a tiny bit. and I don't see how my vote supercedes my right to ever criticize the cops ever again.

Let me tell you what I believe. Sometimes the cops are the good guys. Sometimes they most certainly are not. "They're not all bad apples" is only a reasonable defense if you have a system for dealing with the baddies.

Were the cops the bad guys this time? I don't fucking know. HOWEVER, I am not convinced that the unarmed protestors would have fared better against the armed Proud Boys if there had been no police. My hypothesis is that there would have been a whole lot more stabbin goin on, even if the cops were MAGA assholes who were more sympathetic to Da Boys.

It's real odd for you to mention the Turner Diaries out of nowhere since a major plot point in that book is the intentional infiltration of police agencies by white supremacists as a long term project, which appears to be exactly what has happened since that book was published.

But like I said, I'm sure that giving more money to these white supremacist cops and asking them real nicely to use it for racial bias training (or whatever) will do the trick.
