It's very easy to imagine an anime TNG
Picard = the chief from ghost in the shell
Riker = Jet from cowboy bebop

Is the ship they are all on called the Yamoto in the japanese version? Is that maybe cus the real world USS enterprise did some mild genociding in Japan in WW2? (I am actually asking both those questions, I dont know)

MacGyver Style Bomb - 2022-09-04

The Yamato is the other ship. Next Generation had older anime references sprinkled all over the place thanks to Michael Okuda.

I mean Yamato was also the name of a bigass Japanese battleship during WWII, and Enterprise was used a few times by the US Navy. They coulda picked a less imperialist name for the same-as-1701-D ship but it's on the official list of "bigass boats".

Okuda's biggest joke was the text for the Treaty of Armens during the Sheliak episode.

Impossible to read in the day of standard def TV. No thought given to crystal clear remastering 30 years down the road.

Even funner fact: that episode, Ensigns of Command, also features the most blatant Counselor Troi cameltoe of the series!

Got hit with the Wave Motion Gun.

It's also a mashup of 2 different episodes. S2 E2 was the awful "Nagilum" episode where a manchild god traps the Enterprise to experiment on their reactions, one of which is an empty Yamato that fades away right after they manage to beam Riker and Geordi out.

Can't remember which episode the black captain dude is from, just the vague memory that the same glitches that destroyed their ship begin infecting the Enterprise.
