sometimes when i'm changing someone's rancid bandages i make up little math problems to solve. but then i wish i'd studied physics instead of life sciences and sadness hits my head like a brick accelerating at 9.8 m/s^2.

The analysis should also apply to pretty much any loses-a-fraction-of-its-energy-per-bounce system like a bouncing ball. Other than the parameter values (which are entirely empirical) there is nothing specific to the magnets here.
