what a lot of people don't realize is that slave plantations were the huge corporations of their time. they are very well documented, with clear records of what plantation owned who, and where

it's entirely possible to trace living people directly back to the land that their ancestors were forced to work on. this land should be eminent domain'd and given to the descendants of the people that were enslaved there.

what to do for the native Americans is a lot more complicated, but something along the lines of proving heritage through DNA (not old, incomplete census rolls) and granting special privileges to them as a class would be a start. also the reservations should collect a percentage of tax revenue from the states they are located in and use that for infrastructure. the idea that we treat these reservations as 'sovereign nations' to the point that we don't even build water infrastructure there is cruel and ridiculous.
