+ various stars for the gut on kendo boy, the larper's invisible shield and the way his boots slip around on the gym floor.
ps the larper won right?
If you LARP, you cannot win.

"Kendo guy and a larper"
What's the difference?

if you upload western martial arts vs. a bouncer I will four star it

Watching that larper swing his shinai is painful. He has no clue.
Check out my submission in the hopper for something a bit closer to what WMA folks practice.
glasseye, I want to make this clear, I voted that clip up specifically so we could have another forum to mock you

Please tell me that no one actually calls that shit Western Martial Arts. You will be lying through your teeth, but it will make me feel better.
There is actually a body of surviving literature from the 15th and 16th century on the subject of.... European combat techniques. It's a valid and interesting albeit geeky area for historical study. I'm not saying it's a valid foundation for glasseye's LARP club or any form of physical recreation, mind you, just that when WMA nerds talk about their shit dating back to what the OLD SCHOOL KNIGHTS AND SHIT DID they're just making a distorted and inaccurate claim, not one completely pulled out of their ass.
There are earlier pieces, such as the I.33 manuscript from ~1280.
There are many text descriptions of a knight's training that we can extrapolate from, but it is true that they lack authority for the actual forms of combat. We patch together what we know from a wide variety of sources, and try to minimize extrapolation as much as possible.
And no, what this guy does is amateur stick waving, not WMA.
This is the beauty of POETV. We can openly mock fat dorks and also discuss surviving texts of the medieval era IN THE SAME COMMENT THREAD.

The secret to victory is forward, forward, triangle, square.

-1 star because a Twinkie didn't fall out if the LARPers pocket.
sannyasin - 2007-12-14
Dammit! This is worse than the kendo versus sabre fencing. At least those two were both sports and they must have agreed on some set of rules the two shared.
This has got to be a D&D guy who graduated to SCA who got got into an argument with his kendo practicing buddy about whether the samurai or medieval knight was better and decided to settle it amongst themselves. This reeks of Star Wars vs Star Trek vs Babylon 5 nerdom.
More like he was in the SCA and started to believe he was so badass that he need to graduate up to "real steel" fighting to show those SCAdian stick jock how a real man do.

Weeaboo? Dorkaboo? Weea-SCA-aboo? What's the appropriate term here?
Billie_Joe_Buttfuck - 2007-12-15
I want to walk up behind the Kendo kid and hit him in the head with a stick.
yoyo1 - 2007-12-15
Wow the larper guy could at least add alittle fantasy in his fighting instead of turning around waving his stick like an idiot.
Pie Boy - 2008-03-17
Kendo guy needs a little kid on his back. Then he'd win.
5 for the weaboo only apparently knowing one attack and repeating it ad nauseam, no matter how many times it fails.
