They still haven't done anything about the sound. "Abdul, the lawnmowers are coming." And it's still really slow. I'd also like to see him kick it in rough terrain. Big Dog can resist kicks on the street, but what about a street with potholes and debris, like, a real street.

Albuquerque Halsey - 2008-03-17 Well, I imagine the chainsaw engine is a placeholder until the walking and prancing technology is perfected.

The Prancing Death

|
FABIO2 - 2008-03-17 Yeah, let's get this thing out of the woods and onto the rough terrain of a STREET.

|
baleen - 2008-03-18
It climbs well, but I want to see it kicked on rough terrain!
This isn't quite as cool as the mechanized body armor though.
|
Miskimo - 2008-03-17
Amazing. Seems like they just need a quieter air compressor when it's on the road. Maybe they don't want it sneaking up on them.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-17
The sound it makes has a lot to do with it, but it really does look like a giant mutated housefly.

HAHAHA!! I was not prepared to see someone KICK the leafblower-powered AT-AT. I laughed so hard I think a little snot came out.
First thought that popped into mind was that I wanted one of these things at every hardcore music concert. Instead of a mosh pit, you get a very robust one of these things, tie it to a stake, and just have a circle of people kicking it like a chained robotic mule or something.
Then I saw ice-skating robot donkey thing take a dive and I know for sure I blew snot. And then the prancing robot equestrian track.
THANKS DARPA, you just made/funded my day. :D

I FOR ONE WELCOME OUR NEW ROBOT OVERLORDS.

StanleyPain - 2008-03-17
The kick and the ice thing are, in my opinion, pretty mind blowing considering how fragile self-stabilizing technology was only a few years ago.
So this is how the robot/human wars begin. With a kick.
|
Caminante Nocturno - 2008-03-17 I like to think that more than one person ran up to it and started comforting it immediately after the kick test was concluded.
All stroking it and making comforting noises to it.

The jerking, the hypnotic buzzing, the periodic sproinging and lifelike skittering to retain balance...This, this is nightmare fuel. It's also gorgeous. Damn it all for not knowing about this sooner, thank you, Poetv!
|
rustedmutt - 2008-03-17 Near the end...the BOINGing! I think it wants to play.
Either that, or the white lines are lava.

That slip on the ice is impressive as well as terrifying

I'll be pretty disappointed if nobody's hung some kind of face on this thing and sent it after some kids.
|
DK1987 - 2008-03-17
incredible! I bet the Japanese are so jealous right now.
This thing kinda puts that Asimo or whatever the hell couldn't even get up the stairs to shame.
|
StanleyPain - 2008-03-17 To be fair, Asimo had to do all that with only two legs.
|
DK1987 - 2008-03-17
that's true but if they perhaps tried to make it more like a robot, and less like a cutesy anime spaceman they would have had more success.
I mean I think part of why this thing is so impressive is, I mean it looks like a headless metal goat out of hell.

Fucking terrifying.

seriouslyuguys - 2008-03-17
The slipping on ice shot made me queasy. Also; why do I feel an empathetic response when someone kicks a robot, and does it make me more or less human?

|
Robin Kestrel - 2008-03-17
5 stars for the recovery on ice. You'd think the thing would be top-heavy carrying 340 pounds, but it didn't go down. Impressive.

One of the best things ever on PoE TV.

I can't wait to hit this thing with a pipe in Silent Hill 5.
|
A Jumping Spider! - 2008-03-17
I love it's jaunty little walk. The prancingat the very end is even better.
In some shots it looks like a pair of ninjas carting a tiny car around.

Or at least it will if I have anything to say about it.

So THAT's what a baby At-AT looks like. I thought they were like pigeons and you never got to see the young.
