Kamina, I wish I could quit you.

Somedays its not easy being a shark-human hybrid.
erection reset by queer - 2008-07-04
I will delay my 1-star rating to give someone time to explain why this is less gay than other japanimation.
Scattersane - 2008-07-04
Honestly, I love this show, but this clip is really only going to please people who already like it.

Sudan no1 - 2008-07-04
It is a pretty gay show except for all the tits.

Also, what scatter said.

Scattersane - 2008-07-04
The gayest part of the show is the actual gay character. Who is fabulously gay. Which is great, and that makes it not gay. Because he's so gay.

Wait, let me start over.

Camonk - 2008-07-04
Forget the anime--of course it's gay; only like two animes aren't gay--and focus on the description. This is easily the gayest description I've ever seen.

I guess that hippo won't be hungry hungry hungry anymore!
Scattersane - 2008-07-04
I love the apparently variable length of that sword. It is as long as your dramatic draw-speech needs it to be.
Flux - 2008-07-04
People keep telling me to watch this and I keep not doing it because fuck an anime but apparently it is by the people who made FLCL, one of the few anime shows that isn't crap. But looking at this clip I'm not really seeing what the deal is supposed to be.

Much like erection, I'd like an explanation.
Keefu - 2008-07-04
It's a ridiculous pastiche/send-up by the people at Gainax of all of the sorts of robot and action anime they would have watched as children. All and any possible cliches have been taken and exaggerated to their fullest, i.e. big robots, busty women, etc. At the end of the series, there's a robot the size of the galaxy.

It's fun. If you can accept as it is, its pretty entertaining in all its ridiculousness. Or hey, maybe it ain't your thing, which is understandable.

Basically, humans have been living underground for hundreds of years, because when they go to the surface, they're all killed. A few of them decided to leave their underground homes for the surface. On their first day out, they run into this character who's one of the generals ordered to suppress/kill all humans.

The themes of the show are courage, brotherhood, heroism, freedom, perseverance and giant robots. For what it is, the show pulls it off nigh perfectly.

Also, don't kiss the chick with red hair. This is very important.

Keefu - 2008-07-04
Red heads are unfairly represented in this anime.

Unlike these beards above, I will explain what I have gathered from 10 episodes on The YouTube:

It is GAINAX's typical "Boy Growing Up" story, which has been a staple since Neon Genesis Evangelion; FLCL mainstreamed the whole Adolescence Genre, but GAINAX has perfected their crazy Kid W/ Robot schtick with this newest one.

When this hits American DVDs even having seen it, I'd still plug it as A Hella Good Anime, or at the very least Something Worth Checkin' Out.

Also: DRILLS!!

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-07-04
Also, this clip is pretty out of place with the cartoon, since nearly all of the battles are between robots, with the interspersal of plot to keep the story going.

Dear GAINAX:

Just make a 12 hour long clip of a non-stop Robot Royal Rumble, with your usual style.

Thanks,

Beard Shavers

SolRo - 2008-07-04
It changes a lot past episode 15 or so, it's a really complete story arc, which is why you need to watch all of it

Keefu - 2008-07-11
It didn't feel so beardy when I wrote all of that, though I must admit it is pretty long winded in retrospect?!?! Maybe I was tired that night. OH WELL.

Flux - 2008-07-04
Outlaws of the Marsh treats on all of those themes except the giant robot one which I could do without and is about 1/1000000th as fruity as this shit.
Mad Struggle - 2008-07-04
ARGLE BARGLE. Don't ask for explanations when you've already made up your mind about something. Hesus Krist.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-07-04
Outlaws of the Marsh sucks.

Xenocide - 2008-07-04
Yes, Flux, I would imagine an ancient Chinese novel that has survived for over 1700 years would be pretty good. HEY I HEAR HAMLET IS GREAT TOO. ZERO STARS FOR ANYTHING THAT ISN'T HAMLET.

TeflonDoc - 2008-07-04
Who the hell do you think I am!?
Daddy Warcrimes - 2008-07-04
There are better or at least more interesting parts that could have been submitted.

I mean, come on, it's a show where two robots are throwing fucking GALAXIES at eachother like saw blades.
j lzrd / swift idiot - 2008-07-04
You submit it, we'll vote on it. It's not that difficult a concept.

Flux - 2008-07-04
j lzrd actually it's not that easy, if you don't have hopper bypass priveleges nothing you submit will ever show up
TeflonDoc - 2008-07-04
just keep on thinking that.

Caminante Nocturno - 2008-07-04
I think it's best if Flux never bothers submitting anything, anyway.
