"We need someone different and smaller in number to blame our troubles on now that blacks and Jews are off limits, and since some people find it icky, gays are an easy target. So we rewrote Bible passages banning all non-reproductive sex by men, to mean just when it's gay men and lesbians. But we ignored the other stuff surrounding it about putting people to death for eating shrimp and how to sell slaves."
