GET THE FACTS!
I am kind of vaguely pleased that we are to the point in society where the people who make this stuff feel they need to defend themselves by making their detractors look like retards.
(also: sure, it's fine "in moderation" but it's also IN FUCKING EVERYTHING, WHETHER YOU WANT IT TO BE OR NOT.)
This commercial is dishonest.
"What do they say about it?" "UMMM."
It's easy to find many claims made about it, online. For example:
"A study in mice suggests that fructose increases obesity. Large quantities of fructose stimulate the liver to produce triglycerides, promotes glycation of proteins and induces insulin resistance. According to one study, the average American consumes nearly 70 pounds of HFCS per annum, marking HFCS as a major contributor to the rising rates of obesity in the last generation."
Ok... but it is still just syrupy sugar water. Sure large quantities of sugar are going to stimulate the liver to produce triglycerides. That's what happens if you have a bunch of sugar. I think the issue is not the HFCS, but, assuming that data is correct, the fact that the average American is having 70 pounds of just this one type of sugar every year. If you eat 70 pounds of cake a year, you can't blame the people who make the cake for causing you to be a fatty.
The reason Americans are consuming up to 70 pounds of an inferior sugar is because said inferior sugar is in just about everything.
You CAN blame the people making the cake if the greedy shits are hiding bits and pieces of that cake in every bit of food you eat.
Thing is, fructose is primarily metabolized by your liver. That's why ingesting high levels of it over extended periods can cause the liver to do pissed-off shit.
The body also reacts differently when you eat fructose (as opposed to when you eat table sugar), insulin levels remain pretty low -- but so do several hormones involved with producing feelings of satiety.
That HFCS is in just about everything pisses me off. People should get to choose whether or not they want to eat it.
Get the facts! Import quotas and tariffs thanks to the American farm lobby on real sugar keep all of our food stuffed to the gills with syrupy, slimy corn instead, mmm!
That's not necessarily a bad thing. "Real sugar" (cane sugar) for whatever that distinction is worth, is one of the most wasteful, ecologically destructive crops in the world. Furthermore, the labor required to get said sugar is inherently exploitative and just a notch above indentured slavery.
Sugar comes from many different sources, not just cane, and we should be thankful that we get most of our sweetness from pleasant, slow talking farmers in Iowa with tractors and not from slave drivers paying work gangs of H-2 visa Jamaicans fifteen dollars a day for the most back-breaking work on the planet.
I think is rules. more delicious than sugar and twice as corny

Those two sound and act like assholes.
Did you know that margerine provides vital lubrication for your heart valves?

As a filler, it's a shitty, more fattening and less-flavorful substitute for sucrose, but way cheaper due to govt. corn subsidies and tariffs on cane sugar. That's what they say about it.
I've never heard of Canadians coming down to the states to stock up on Coke because it's so much better with corn syrup instead of nasty old sugar. Sorry.. this is just infuriating.
OTOH, corn is awesomely 100% American and countries without the balls to grow corn can fucking import it and eat it. So fuck you.
I'm thrilled, I have to spend a lot of time in Atlanta and I finally found a Mexican market that has a supply of cane sugar coke, sprite, and all the fanta flavors! I need to take an armful to Coke headquarters and laugh in their faces
Its a sizable grocery store on South Cobb just south of Windy Hill road in Smyrna (off 285), "El Valu" or something like that. There's a whole aisle of soda, even had some of the refilled coke bottles that are worn smooth on the edges.
Do check the ingredients stickers though, seemed like some of the stuff from Guatemala had HFCS listed instead of cane sugar, bleh
You have filled me with happy, and soon I shall fill myself with tasty tasty sugar.

shit man, it's the garden of eden all over again, and the snake is the HFCS lobby.

Can we kill all white people? Please? I'll volunteer to go first.
Those two are pretty comfortable with eachother considering they've evidently never eaten a meal together before.
They used to give High Fructose Corn Syrup to diabetics because it supposedly has a lower glycemic index than regular sugar. Now High fructose corn syrup is in everything, even commercially baked bread. as a diabetic i can say that it's effect on my blood sugar is worse than cane sugar.
It's fine in moderation and might be calorie-equivalent but it's not as satisfying as real sugar so it's a lot easier to go overboard with HFCS than with sucrose. Plus it's slimy and tastes terrible.
harsh, she only loves him two bites.
Hate to admit it but they kind of nailed it.
I was once in a roomful of "radical"/trust fund leftist kids who worked themselves up into a froth over the World Trade Organization but then when asked "OK, who can tell me WHY they suck!", the whole room went dead silent.
That's why you actually investigate and do research.
Yes, they certainly nailed reactionary idiots. Good thing those only come in one subject-flavor.
Okay class, how would our perceptions of the commercial have changed if he were to have presented the phallus shaped popsicle to her instead?
