An incredible day.

*gapes and gets sniffly*
Wow. Just wow.
Fear lost to optimism? Cool.
God bless America.
Now time to go to work (just about everyone I work with are rabid Palin fans) and listen to whining about Armageddon.
They were protecting Bush from hippies, who actually believe petitions and 'citizens arrests' can work. Obama's got to worry about the prayer warriors with guns and racist militias.
The problem in my mind is a little less rational. Guys like Bush never get killed. A guy like Obama? Well. We surely hope not.
"...more than two centuries later a government of the people, by the people, and for the people has not perished from the Earth."
Beautiful speech entirely.
Also - Yes, we can, and YEAH, WE DID.
America: Fuck Yeah
Since we re-elected Michele Bachman, Saxby Chambliss and Ted Stevens, and we're awfully close to re-electing Norm Coleman, and we've also passed things like Prop. 8, no. But we're on our way. This is a huge first step.
Yay, we're not the inbred, backward hillbillies of the western world anymore!
I'm just glad we can close the book on the last eight years and start over. And with Obama in charge, I, at least, will be starting from a good place of optimism and renewed faith in America.
I can't quote the whole thing, so I'll just say NEW PUPPY
As a Communist (a real one not HAW HAW I AM LIBRAL COMMUNIST HAW HAW) i say that times will be extremely interesting indeed.
I supported Obama and voted for him. Despite his obvious leads, I was stunned when the news was calling the election for him. (a 9 PM my time!! Unheard of!) And it took hours for me to come out of the daze of letting it sink in that we have the first black president, but that the Bush era was over.
All that said, though....we must now be vigilant and can't be lazy. This country did a lot and put up with a lot to get Obama elected. He better do his best with what he has been given. We need to be, to a certain extent, hard on him. Not cruel or unrealistic, but watchful.
Whoa! Whale Wars!
The greatest country on earth indeed. TAKE THAT JAPAN! FUCKERS!
people seriously need to get off this "he's a target now, watch out" crapola. can't you just enjoy the goddamn moment and have a little optimism for the friggin guy? jesus h!
Seriously, the people i were watching with were watching this speech worried sick - for fear of hearing a rifle shot. The thick panels of glass on both sides of Obama were only a steep reminder that Obama may seriously have to deal with hick assasins.

Congrats to Obama, and I look forward to seeing what the next 4 years will bring.
However, part of me expects he will be a one-term president -- it's like when you are excited to see a movie, have watched all the trailers, etc., it's usually a disappointment because you've built it up so much in your mind it can't possibly live up to the hype. Likewise, Obama is still a politician within the same system we've always had, and I think people have unreasonable expectations of him, and those people will probably be disappointed when reality sets in. He could do the best job in the world, but I still think based on reading many peoples' comments, they expect him to perform miracles.
We're not left with a lot of choices, this country is still circling the drain in nearly every possible aspect. Getting a man with the strength of character and intelligence of Obama is the best chance we have to salvage something out of this mess, and maybe make some positive strides against the regression of the last 8 years that we've all suffered through. A miracle would be an America that is still relevant in another decade.
We've all got to get off our asses and fucking do something about it, and the fact that this campaign and everyone that participated in it got a nearly unknown black junior senator named Barack Hussein Obama elected to the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED FUCKING STATES in this crooked nepotistic system is a damn good start at achieving the pie in the sky impossible. We're all in this together, and moaning about the futility of swinging for the fences in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs isn't going to to get us out of this shit any faster than just fucking going for it. YEEEHAA

What I'm already sick of is the insinuation that because any corporations backed him, he is somehow bought and sold by them. Bush was an example of ultimate corruption, selling national forests to strip mining and loggers for nothing, giving Haliburton and Blackwater unimaginable amounts of cash, letting chemical companies do whatever the hell they want including tests on orphans in Third World countries (I am so not even kidding about that) and attempted to undo every single social program we have, without being called out nearly enough by the press.
And yet Obama gets called out for accepting corporate money. As if you can become president without it. He is not going to make everything perfect, but he can help by doing his job and driving this country towards being productive and competitive with the rest of the world, while maintaining or rather re-instituting diplomatic relations with many countries and hopefully curbing the amount of cronyism, bullying, phony distractions, doctored scientific reports, and shitpiles of excuses for not living up to what this country owes its citizens. I say good luck to him and yes, let's not get complacent or lax. These things are not going to go away overnight and after beginning to deal with them, we can keep an eye out so history doesn't repeat itself.
Fellas, I think you guys (especially Rodent - I really don't know where you're getting the corporate thing from my post) are reading a little too much into what I'm saying. All I'm getting at is, let's not make the dude out to be a god, when the president can really only do so much, and politicians -- as much as they act like it -- aren't really that much like us (ie, normal people). Be excited, be hopeful, but don't expect the guy to perform miracles.
