Big Hair! Cyberpunk! Blade Runner references! 80's Electro!

YEAH YEAH YEAH

takewithfood - 2009-01-04

This show somehow felt painfully 80s even IN the 80s. Sadly, a lot of anime never got out of that decade. What is their obsession with high-waisted pants?

GIVE ME TOUCH!

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-01-04

Oh dammit, I just had to go wiki-diving to figure out which one in the group was the one with ribbon cutters and knuckle bombs and the green combat suit. She was always the best. Caminante will agree.

I have gained +1 retro beard.

Nikon - 2009-01-04

Linna Yamazaki, who taught fitness.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-04

You are right, Linna was the best Knight Saber.

Goethe and ernie - 2009-01-04

I don't understand how anyone over the age of 13 could watch this stuff for any reason other than to laugh/gawp at it.

I just spent a perfectly enjoyable four minutes fifty-four seconds going "what the fuck....?" at this, but I'm sadly aware that there are people my age out there who'd happily watch whole episodes of this shit, and think it was great.

Monchiles Monchiles - 2009-01-04

My friend gave me a whole bunch of this thing on VHS and I happily ejected the tape to after forty excrutiating minutes to watch a Ninja Turtles movie. I've never looked back.

Xenocide - 2009-01-04

But...but...they're a rock band that FIGHTS CRIME! Robot crime!

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-04

You guys are fucking losers.

Unsung - 2009-01-04

5 stars for people putting on a front of being to cool and mature to watch a cartoon clip.

Goethe and ernie - 2009-01-04

Five stars for that, yeah, except for the bit where I said I watched and enjoyed the clip.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-04

Except that you put some work into convincing us that you enjoyed it ironically. Certainly not in a sincere way, but rather in a way that makes you go "What the fuck, yo!" while you laugh and GAWP at it like a big man.

DrVital - 2009-01-04

I have to admit that I originally watched this on a duped VHS tape without subtitles.

Until the advent of CGI the opportunities for decent action sci-fi were few and far between, and the early episodes of Bubblegum Crisis had some pretty awesome fights.

phalsebob - 2009-01-04

Raises the old question of whether weeaboo > furry or furry > weeaboo.

Oldmacho - 2009-01-04

And also the question: Are you a Reprican, or a Reprican't?

ztc - 2009-01-04

I remember having this forced on me by the types who try to get people into anime, and hating it. Then I discovered a Bubblegum Crisis manga which I fucking loved, so I showed it to said types, who exploded in rage because it was actually written and drawn by an American, which is apparently a war crime. A manga comic actually being entertaining was a big no-no in weeaboo circles back then, it had to be grim and serious or it wasn't 4 REAL yo.

robotkarateman - 2009-01-04

For even more fun, find a 30+ year old neckbeard and tell him how much you used to love the Dirty Pair comic book.

ztc - 2009-01-04

I do love the Dirty Pair comic book! The cartoon was a step backwards though and the novelizations were just retarded.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-04

The American Bubblegum Crisis and Dirty Pair manga were made by Adam Warren.

Lindner - 2009-01-05

I remember friends getting into bloody fist fights over whether we should rent the subtitled or dubbed version of Ranma 1/2.

... god we were stupid.

robotkarateman - 2009-01-05

The American Dirty Pair wasn't just drawn by Warren, it was his life before Proteus finally hired him because the rights to the characters were cheaper than the rights to the original manga. Seriously, it's all he drew, doodles of Kei and Yuri on his notebooks in highschool. If the internet were around in his day he'd have made a KeenSpot webcomic about them instead of a comic book. If you can find some of the first printings of Biohazards, read the back pages - the slavering early weeaboo-ism was excised from later printings but it's really quite embarrassing to read. And also entertaining.

AnalSexRobot - 2009-01-04

I'm glad someone else has watched Streets of Fire.

BHWW - 2009-01-04

Some of the folks involved in the production have, from what I heard, admitted that the Ellen Aim concert scenes were among the many influences they made blatant nods to.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-04

I really miss the "Girls in Battlesuits" genre. Deep down, I hold a thin strand of hope that it will soon make its return in anime.

Nikon - 2009-01-04

The fight between Largo and Priss was god damn epic. I still rewatch that once a year.

j lzrd / swift idiot - 2009-01-04

I miss the "The Girl IS a Battlesuit" anime.

Where's "All-Purpose Cultural Cat-Girl Nuku-Nuku?" in the hopper? YOU DON'T SAY!?

DMKA - 2009-01-04

I actually liked Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 somewhat at one point. Not this though.

Caminante Nocturno - 2009-01-04

Yeah, Nene was pretty hot in the remake.
