I had to vote this up as an ex-employee. What really shocks me is Blockbuster appears to be going along with this -- I think my old colleagues need to be very worried.
I never understood why it took so long to check out at Blockbuster. It sometimes took five minutes and they had to do nothing but take my money and hand me the video I brought up to the counter.
I can go to McDonalds and get an ENTIRE MEAL in about one minute.
Why can't the Blockbuster transaction be about 5 seconds long?
My pissy local Blockbuster had two clustered DEC Alpha server 3000s running what appeared to be OpenVMS under the counter, at least k worth of kit. It was surreal.
Hilarious how it only took 9 years for this to come exactly true.
Not just Blockbuster going extinct, but only one store left open, kept around mostly as a nostalgia museum oddity. They sell nostalgia movie nights where you can rent out the whole store and stage a "movie night sleepover".
