Stalin apparently hated this movie and decided to destroy Eisenstein because of it. After this Eisenstein fell apart. Stalin considered it "too formalistic," but of course he also most likely thought it was about him.
That was part two. Stalin loved part one. It even won a prize (the Stalin Prize).
Slavs sure can grow some facial hair. Also, Prokofiev. Also, I need to see this movie.
Try watching this in a Guy Maddin frame of mind.
