That did look goddamn delicious.

Kinda curious about how sumo style wrestling is when pitted against other martial arts styles. Are they allowed to compete in MMA events or not?

teethsalad - 2009-08-11

akebono did some K1, and he did terribly, but a less freakishly disproportionate wrestler (asashoryu, hakuho, etc) would probably have a better go of it w/ proper striking and ground training

also, emanuel yarborough doesn't coun't. that guy is fucking terrible

teethsalad - 2009-08-11

and they'd only be allowed to compete if they were retired and had no function within the sumo association

Re: the proper ground training... See, that was my thought, because most MMA matches end up in scrappling and chokeholds anyway, and I imagine a sumo would rock at that shit.

I would think they'd have a hard time cutting down to 265 pounds (heavyweight) for the most part.

"Sumo wrestlers, who consume about 5,500 kcal a day, live sixty-one years, which is about seventeen years less than average Japanese men."

"While U.S. life expectancy is 77.6 years, recent studies suggest the average for NFL players is 55, 52 for linemen."
