We had a discussion when I posted this to poe-news in April:

ProfessorChaos - 2010-09-17

I'd love to read it, but the link you posted tells me that "An invalid post id was supplied.2"

Well, time to pour my organic apple juice down the drain.

Aress - 2010-09-17

Fruit is basically just candy from a tree anyway.

Weird since just last week I decided to cut sugar almost completely from my diet after I realized how much sugar I consume per year, and that's with trying to eat relatively healthy. It's insane how much sugar is in EVERYTHING once you start looking for it.

Toenails - 2010-09-17

I thought I was some brilliant asshole replacing those yucky raw veggies from my diet with V8 Splash and V8 Fusion.

Reason I didn't just go with the regular V8 was cause that shit has so much salt in it, it's crazy. I actually thought the juices from the fruit would be more than enough of a flavor enhancer that nothing else was needed.

5 months (seriously) into this scheme I have going, I decide to look at the ingredients. Number one ingredient after water?

Yup.

pastorofmuppets - 2010-09-17

In the interest of being an ass, I want to point out that being a replacement for vegetables is how V8 has marketed themselves for years. YOU'VE BEEN HAD SIR

That said, I have not completely written off the idea of buying a blender off of Montel Williams.

poorwill - 2010-09-17

Thanks for the head's up, Toenails. I just bought a ton of that shit. I will not be doing it again.

Syd Midnight - 2010-09-18

Why do people fixate on HFCS? I think it's because a lecture called "You people need to stop cramming so much sugary food down your fat gullets, that includes organic fruits and vegetable juice as well as soda and junk food" wouldn't appeal to conspiracy minded nerds who want their health to be someone elses fault.

ProfessorChaos - 2010-09-18

The same blender that Montel (and a psychic) endorse on the infomercial?

cognitivedissonance - 2010-09-17

Supremely fascinating stuff, but I'd really like to see who is funding him.

The Mothership - 2010-09-17

I was rapturously interested in this lecture, and it is convincing stuff; anybody interested in HFCU should also read 'Against the Grain' by Richard Manning.

I am, however, reminded of my college chemistry class on poison (yes, a class dedicated only to poisons, great stuff) and the professor's overriding point: 'Poison is all in the dose' he said, repeatedly. Tobacco takes years and years to kill somebody through smoking, but tobacco juice spat on a lizard will kill it faster than dammit (he had some great analogies).
I am fuzzy on the whole classification of fructose as a poison, as damn near every chemical in the world can be poisonous 'at the proper dose'. Our problem now is that we take far too many doses of this particular substance.

Syd Midnight - 2010-09-18

So how much watermelon would I have to eat to die from it

StanleyPain - 2010-09-18

Another good book (whcih just went into paperback) is The End of Overeating.

Hooker - 2010-09-23

Yes, Syd. The word poisonous means something which will kill you.

Ursa_minor - 2010-09-17

Count how many times he says "Kay?" in that lilting little tone. It will drive you fucking crazy.

fluffy - 2011-01-11

I didn't even notice it until I read the comments and now it's driving me NUTS

nidan - 2010-09-17

Also check out "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes for more on why the conventional wisdom about diet is completely wrong.

baleen - 2010-09-18

Cool. Very interesting.

knowless - 2011-01-09

eat like a gorilla and you'll be good. processed anything is always robbing you, price and health wise. get back to nature.. and you will be healthy.
eat a shit load of leaves, roots, grain, meat, it doesnt matter.

i cant even give a shit about any of this because the reliance on processed food is completely beyond me. if all you have is the corner beer store than maybe i have sympathy, but if you have access to real food then this is not dramatic just failure lazy.

i am screaming in my mind.
