You can buy things similar to this commercially now. At least one of them (the AR Drone) is iPhone-controllable.
These particular things are like angry, programmable hummingbirds. If they figure out how to metabolize nectar we're fucked.
comparing those toys to this is comparing toys to a real thing
then all we will need are killer robot praying mantises to sort out our killer robot hummingbird problem.
SolRo, the main difference between the AR Drone and this thing is that the AR Drone is on the market and is ready to have people write the path-planning software for it, as opposed to this thing that is a research platform for writing path-planning software.

Agreed. When the first guy throws it into the air, he flinches not because he's afraid it'll fall on him, but because he knows of the hunger that controls the beast.
I look forward to the day when larger versions of these are hovering over our cities, enforcing curfews and snatching dissenters up and dropping them off at re-education camps where they will learn to love our alloy-and-plastic overlords.

You can buy these things for about 500 bucks now. My buddy just got one. It can travel to GPS waypoints by itself and you can fly it First Person with a special camera / goggle setup.... granted they are not nearly as intelligent as this one is.
I do not fear this, but embrace it. I am open to the prospect of affordable UAV technology for the masses.
Thank god for the "SLOW MOTION" caption, I wouldn't have known what the hell was going on.
