No 'Manhack' tag?
deadpan - 2010-09-20
Glad I'm not the only person who instinctively pressed 'g' when I heard that buzz.

SolRo - 2010-09-19
I'm so getting a swarm of these for my island lair.
Robin Kestrel - 2010-09-19
Just the sound makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck.
garcet71283 - 2010-09-20
That is the sound of your doom approaching, fleshling.

You can buy things similar to this commercially now. At least one of them (the AR Drone) is iPhone-controllable.

These particular things are like angry, programmable hummingbirds. If they figure out how to metabolize nectar we're fucked.
SolRo - 2010-09-20
comparing those toys to this is comparing toys to a real thing

The Mothership - 2010-09-20
then all we will need are killer robot praying mantises to sort out our killer robot hummingbird problem.

Urburos - 2010-09-20
Mothership beat me to it.

fluffy - 2010-09-20
SolRo, the main difference between the AR Drone and this thing is that the AR Drone is on the market and is ready to have people write the path-planning software for it, as opposed to this thing that is a research platform for writing path-planning software.

If japan has taught me anything it's that everything is for sex. EVERYTHING.

SolRo - 2010-09-20
we could learn so much from that wonderful country

sosage - 2010-09-20
The fact that their creators look frightened of them tells me everything I need to know.

Squeamish - 2010-09-20
Agreed. When the first guy throws it into the air, he flinches not because he's afraid it'll fall on him, but because he knows of the hunger that controls the beast.

BHWW - 2010-09-20
I look forward to the day when larger versions of these are hovering over our cities, enforcing curfews and snatching dissenters up and dropping them off at re-education camps where they will learn to love our alloy-and-plastic overlords.

Multiple rotors + millimeter precise targeting x smart programming = QUIT ARMING THE FRACKIN' ROBOTS!

Thank you.
TheJollyDodger - 2010-09-20
They need to enter this thing into the Super Helico challenge on the Unbeatable Banzuke!
Squeamish - 2010-09-20
I wish they'd figure out a way to keep these things from sounding like a horde of demon locusts.

Seriously, it sounds like Hell's air raid siren.
roughnready66 - 2010-09-20
That thing's a killer!
themilkshark - 2010-09-20
I will die by the hands of one of these, I just know it.

Shotgun shells loaded with fishing sinkers tied together with heavy line.
Buggerman - 2010-09-20
You can buy these things for about 500 bucks now. My buddy just got one. It can travel to GPS waypoints by itself and you can fly it First Person with a special camera / goggle setup.... granted they are not nearly as intelligent as this one is.

I do not fear this, but embrace it. I am open to the prospect of affordable UAV technology for the masses.

Thank god for the "SLOW MOTION" caption, I wouldn't have known what the hell was going on.
