So, wait... This isn't Fallout 4?

Another game for me to buy and not play.

So many engines, so little design talent.

If its moddable I would be tempted to buy it so that I can try to make it suck less, as I pretty much do with every moddable game I've purchased.

Otherwise its pretty bland.

It also really bothers the shit out of me when modern FPS games don't even use any kind of sighting system.

You know this game was made by Id, as they seem to espouse the "all off-the-hip all-the-time" school of FPS game design.

Ah, you know what? Who am I kidding? I haven't even gotten through the second and third installment of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and the first one was way better than this.

Nevermind, I spoke too soon.

So they have a sight system for aiming.

You surprise me Id, you surprise me.

Yes, I'm also hoping that the game allows you to mod some aspects of it.

IIrc both Tim Willits and John Carmack said something along the lines of mods may not be possible in the game due to it's technical complexities.

If it turns out that no mods are allowed, I'm probably not going to buy the game since I'm really not a fan of full regenerating health and being limited to carrying only 2-4 firearms.

I don't get the appeal of the whole iron sights craze at all. Why would you want to spend a good portion of the game with a gun obscuring half the screen? What's so bad about abstracting that shit with a cross hair (unless you're going for some kind of hyper immersion like Condemned)?

I always figured that the entire point of iron sights was to compensate for the terrible fine control of console FPS games. Why put that shit on a PC?

So, this is exactly like Borderlands, but without procedurally generated loot? I mean, that's okay - but fuckall if this game hasn't already been made a few times - and sure this looks better, which is fine - but it sure as hell seems like something I've already seen and played a few times.

I'll still buy it and give it a shot, but only in the hopes that it's somehow funner than the games it apes.

That's what we told ourselves about Doom 3.

NEVER AGAIN

Glad to see there is a "produce turret directly from your rectum" attack.

Spider drone is so cute. The way it looks up at you like a dog at 2:37 is adorable.

I hope they release a mod that lets you rub its belly and feed it ammunition as if they were treats.
CharlesSmith - 2011-06-12
Oh wow they've jammed even better graphics onto Doom. Yeah that's exactly like Fallout alright.
