My machine won't run it anymore. It used to run as smooth as silk. Now it can take up to five minutes to get into a map, it chugs like a mother-fucker and routinely freezes up. And this is after completely wiping my Steam drive and reinstalling the Steam client and my games.

I think my CPU may be clogged with hats.

Everyone and their mother swore to god (especially on POEN when there was still a POEN server) TF2 would run on my computer despite not being at all a game machine and I got lectured about how great and streamlined the Steam engine was so I bought it and, of course, it doesn't run worth shit. I heard there was a mod that made the graphics, like, Quake style or something so it would run on way older computers..maybe I should try that.

I've heard people say that the LOD on the hats is responsible for the degraded performance, that they're not improperly rendered at high resolutions no matter how far away they are from you. Dunno if it's true or not, though.
