Cena_mark Georgia is a sovereign nation ran by democratically elected leaders, Iraq was ruled by a dictator. Plus we didn't invade them, we liberated them. We gave Iraq back to the Iraqis, I don't think Russia plans to be as nice to Georgia.

Syd Midnight The S. Odessans wanted to secede from Georgia and become part of Russia. It was Georgia that started attacking them. Read a few news articles on the event before jumping to the "Russia invaded so it must be evil" conclusion.
Besides, Iraq was a sovereign nation too when we invaded them. And we didn't just invade the Kurdish region that wanted us to, we took the whole damn country and toppled the government. (And now we're fighting the Kurdish insurgents because they hate us, they just hated Saddam even more.)

IrishWhiskey I'd be more inclined to believe the "gave Iraq back to Iraqis" bit, if the Iraqi people's and government's requests for us to leave weren't met with laughter.
We don't have a moral underpinning for which countries we support and which actions we sanction. Pretending otherwise usually just results in grim comedy.

StanleyPain Oh, I would also like to point out that McCains loudmouthed involvement in this whole thing is actually against the law. The Logan Act to be precise which was enacted in order to discourage exactly the kind of asshattery that can come from someone engaging in their own style of unofficial diplomacy when they have something to prove (like during an election season). Nothing will come of it, no one has the balls to actually call him on it, but it's still worth noting.
