I remember reading a nice balanced essay by a member of the band OK GO, EMI disabled embedding for the video with the treadmills, losing a ton of exposure for the band while bringing in maybe 4 thousand dollars.
So it does serve a purpose, but it may be a dumb decision, if they're trying to promote their film school or whatever.
