He had a long, intimate discussion with Ayn Rand's ghost the night before this speech.

Good thing the world won't have to suffer another Ron Paul Presidential Campaign.

I love how you are all ignoring all of his valid and beautifully argued points to just center on the economic gold jokes or the social points when Ron Paul is literally one of the only people in government who continually fought against aggressive war on the part of our government.

I mean, I don't want him for president, but he has a LOT to say on the immorality of all of the administrations over the past few decades and that bravery does make him fairly unique. He took Obama to task on his fascism and I applaud him for it, even though I don't agree with him on abortion or gold currency.

But now that he's out of the way, there will practically be no one to stand up against the war in Afghanistan and the upcoming war with Iran should Obama pursue that shithole.
cognitivedissonance
Except that every time he mentions the immorality of the government it's in a purely self-serving and manipulative fashion. Thousands in this country would die for him if only he'd say the word. He's a cult leader and nothing more.

There's still Rand.

Ron Paul isn't a saint. He's an old white man who dislikes paying taxes.

No partisan voter is capable of rational political thought. No one likes it when Ron Paul reminds them of it, especially his own base.

I hope he goes on to become a FOX commentator, beginning their slow march back to the left of feces eating insanity.

Raggamuffin
Yeah, but he's against the wars in the middle east because being against them happens to be in line with his screwball political philosophies. That's the thing about the libertarian party, they don't want the government to do anything, so if you are against the government doing something specific, chances are a guy like Ron Paul will agree with you. As a result, they have something for everyone.

Against the war? so is he! Against affirmative action? Paul is too! Wanna smoke weed? Ron wants to let you! Sexually harassed at work? Quit yer job dude!

Libertarians are like Communists, only not as good at stating a stable ideology. Both isms often point out the ills of our society quite well and stake out fairly defensible moral positions. However, they both suck balls at their "solutions" for them. Libertarianism is the idea that if football teams are cheating, the solution is to remove the referees. If corporations are doing evil and nasty things, less people trying to make them stop will naturally make them stop.

Libertarianism also has the lovely "States Rights" flavor of bullshit running through it. Hey, bigotry shouldn't be a federal thing! Let's remove all protections for minorities and laws that keep one religion from being elevated over another via public money and property! Surely the states won't do anything like make Christian rituals mandatory in schools, allow businesses to discriminate in hiring practices based on race, gender, or creed, or limit voting rights based on property ownership or something CRAZY like that, would they? Of course not, thanks to "natural" forces or some other quasi-religious drivel.

Was he against the war? Good for him. He's still naive, if not hypocritical, railing against wasteful spending and government handouts on one hand while accepting earmarks and disaster relief on the other.

Also he probably smells weird.

Oh Jesus, ROUS! Not you too! NOT YOU TOO!!!!

You know at least LaRouche-ies you can sniff out on sight. Ron Paul guys can seem normal for months, years even, then STRIKE!

I just want to give credit where credit is due. I do not agree with Paul for a lot of economic stances he has. I do not share his libertarian philosophy.

This does not change the fact that he has been an outspoken proponent against using the tactic of preemptive war, and for this I will applaud him. He deserves it. Likewise he deserves credit for rallying people against NDAA, which is completely and totally wrong in every conceivable way. He has rallied people to not accept torture under both Bush and Obama's terms. I applaud him for this.

The reason I did not vote for Obama was his human rights stance. He is an utter hypocrite. Paul may have a lot of social stances that I vehemently disagree with but he called Obama out on it and I say good for him for doing so.

Ron Paul and racist newsletters. I could almost -- ALMOST -- accept that Ron didn't exert any control over the newsletters sent out in his name (as completely implausible as that would be), but when they became a scandal, he promised to take responsibility for them. So, what form has "responsibility" taken? He's done nothing to repudiate the sentiments in those newsletters, he seems to be quite happy to ply racism when he can get away with it, but not denounce it when he has a golden opportunity to.

Yeah, Ron Paul may say sensible things once in a while, but not so deep down he's as unprincipled as your average Republican demagogue. He just works the other side of the street. So fuck him. I have no faith at all that, if he attained higher office, he'd be the ethical libertarian he wants people to think he is.

You shouldn't credit people who are against something bad because they want to be the one doing it. It is not a virtue to be "against aggressive war" when they're only against it because they hate any taxes or laws that do not directly benefit them, and plan to hire mercenaries to kill people and seize property and fight aggressive wars on an as-needed basis because that's more profitable to them than a standing military or public justice system.

I don't think Ron Paul gives a rats ass about torture or war crimes if they're being committed by a private corporation that he has invested in. When you pat someone like that on the back, you get shit on your hand.

John Holmes Motherfucker
Sorry to see him go. Ron Paul is my favorite Republican.
