I remember I watched this regularly, to the point that my mom found it amusing because she though the movie was crap. Yet I remember almost nothing about it, other than a one lined about a lazy laser that just 'lays there.' Seeing this intro again, I realize it's just madness.

I liked this show a lot. It had a peculiar style of it's own (helped along by Burton actually being involved in the show's design).

It certainly led to me being a lifelong lover of puns.

This show would go to any length - ANY length - for a cheap pun. No matter the cost. No matter how fucking stupid. It always, always made the pun.
GravidWithHate - 2013-03-24
"It's a good thing for you there isn't any sanity clause"

"Ahm sick of people saying there isn't a Sant-y Claus"

This show lodged that pun in my brain more than 20 God damn years ago, and now I finally have a chance to get it out.

I remember once they got far enough into the show that they actually tried to do a fantastic voyage plotline. Beetle juice had swallowed some kind of bug that would... kill him, I guess? He's already dead, so... hrm.

Beetlejuice goes to a mad scientist so that the three of them can shrink down and go inside his body.

"Uh, one problem, Doc. How am I going to go into my own body?"

"Easy! We will give you a 'split personality'! "

The Doc then pulls out axe and slices him in two, forming two identical Beetlejuices, one of which just blankly stands there, staring straight ahead.

I don't know why but that is literally the only clear memory I have of this show. From time to time, I too will think about that single gag. I have no idea why it's still in my brain.

There was one where they were in ancient Rome, and they were having cherry-rot races.

The chariots were gigantic rotting cherries.

The villain was a chicken named "Cacciatore".

"Welp, nuthin' else to do. Guess I'll watch a little TV."

CUT TO: Betelgeuse watching a three-inch-tall television.

Caminante Nocturno - 2013-03-24
May favorite one was Beetlejuice stating he stands tall on his principles while showing him standing on the chests of a couple of principals.

Never let it be said that they did not bend space and time and the very fabric of reality itself to make good on a pun.

There was an episode near the end where Tim Burton guest voiced a character named "Prince Vince", who was a recurring love interest for Lydia. The idea was he was a depressed fairy tale prince.

This show was a lot better than most of the awful schlock peddled to kids in the early 90s. Thanks for the memories.
Caminante Nocturno - 2013-03-24
I have forgotten how good this show was, and it's blowing me away to remember.
StanleyPain - 2013-03-24
I always liked this cartoon. It's one of the few based-on-a-movie things that actually sort of delivered a good extended universe, at least one for younger kids.
Xenocide - 2013-03-24
It succeeded mainly by ignoring the storyline of the movie altogether, turning Lydia and Beetlejuice into platonic best pals, and making Beetlejuice into a merry prankster instead of a greasy dead date rapist.

StanleyPain - 2013-03-24
True.

But it had no Otho, and points off for that, I guess.
