Ok, now what in the fucking balls

simon666 - 2013-04-09

I'd like to point out this video has the opposite effect as ASMR on me. F'ing gross, those sounds.

OxygenThief - 2013-04-09

Same here. I listen to ASMR videos when my insomnia gets bad but all this did was make me nauseous.

lordyam - 2013-04-10

agreed, asmr is my valium. it helps me unwind when i get off late and dont want to go to bars or take drugs. i prefer the guided meditation and ambient noise stuff. this... this is just gross, in fact all the chewing and lip smacking stuff i hate. i learned at young age how to chew with my mouth closed damnit

boner - 2013-04-09

Dear God, a few days ago a heard a piece on "This American Life" about ASMR, so this stuff is about to get a lot more insufferable.

Billy the Poet - 2013-04-09

I'm hoping that ASMR and gangstalking can merge into one insufferable (but quiet) mass delusion.

La Loco - 2013-04-10

That story was entertaining. What weirdos.

Jet Bin Fever - 2013-04-10

my girlfriend told me she heard it there and asked me if I knew "Water Whisper Ilse", I looked her up, and sure enough its that Cranial Nerve Exam weirdo.

cognitivedissonance - 2013-04-10

That's it, I'm never eating again.

Congratulations, Internet, you've ruined EATING.

WHO WANTS DESSERT - 2013-04-10

So is there any actual psychological research on ASMR or is it another made-up, self-diagnosed way that people on the internet can feel special without actually doing anything?

Mancakes - 2013-04-10

Until somebody ponies up the cash for a project with fMRI, PET, MEG, and the like, we really don't know if it's an actual "thing" with shared underlying reasons/locations, but in the same way that people with migraines or synaesthesia could basically be told the same thing and harden the fuck up because your brain problems are obviously manufactured until this imaging stuff came around to prove it.

Personally, I get what I'd be forced to call ASMR with certain audio and there's enough of a vocal minority that I'd wager that it actually is a spectrum neurological quirk, but one that just needs to be properly researched. And then abused and marketed.

Nominal - 2013-04-10

I'm pretty sure all the women who told me they had a migraine and had to go home were all making it up.
