It's like listening to a child. A murderous, ignorant child.

Hence, five stars.

Human beings are fucked up creatures.

The more I see of this movie, the more I kind of hate it. Not that it looks like a bad movie, but that this person should not be given celebrity, and I don't trust the motives behind choosing to do so.
oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2013-07-24
yeah just ignore him and he'll go away, right

memedumpster - 2013-07-24
You make no sense, will watching this movie that makes him seem like a likeable person make all his victims come back?

Did he ignore them to make them go away too?

Seriously?

So, most people know about Hitler and far fewer people know about Pol Pot. Hitler is a bigger celebrity than Pol Pot by far. But let's say a number of popular movies / books / whatever come out about the Khmer Rouge, and the public understanding of Pol Pot and what he did goes through the roof. Would this be a bad thing?

The guy this documentary is about doesn't come off as a likeable person. I mean, for fuck's sake here, meme.

memedumpster - 2013-07-25
I never watched it, for all I know they dress him up as a pig later and execute him, it hasn't happened in any poe clips and the tone of this documentary seems way too flattering for that.

Hitler was never allowed to put on a minstrel show for a documentary film crew, all smiles and warm reminiscing. Hitler didn't benefit from his celebrity after his reign.

All I'm saying is, this person shouldn't get to mug for cameras while we dote about what a good movie it is, fuck him. This doesn't look like an educational movie, it looks like the goddamned Jersey Shore.

From wikipedia :

"Invited by Oppenheimer, Anwar and his friends eagerly re-enact the killings for the cameras, and make dramatic scenes depicting their memories and feelings about the killings. The scenes are produced in the style of their favorite film genres: gangster, western, and musical. "

I will grind glass into my eyes before I watch this.

The tone of the movie seems like Morris-style detachment to me. Letting a guy who murdered numerous people do a dance at the killing site is certainly not a flattering portrayal. If you were in some way charmed by that performance, perhaps it says more about you?

memedumpster - 2013-07-25
No one sane will see me as the one charmed by this piece of shit movie, you who defend it.

oswaldtheluckyrabbit - 2013-07-25
You are mind-bogglingly stupid

yogarfield - 2013-07-25
hooker hit the nail on the head. morris's detached hand is running around all over this movie. lies, fakery, the deception of photography/cinema. you really should watch it first meme, you can hate it later.

memedumpster - 2013-07-26
Morris didn't make this movie. He did refer to it as "genocide the musical" however.

War Crimes has become a pointless label. This is just pure inhumanity to humanity.
yogarfield - 2013-07-26
i know he didn't make it. he funded it, but he has always had a hard-on for war photography. his recent "believing is seeing" is worth a read; its a photoforensic exploration of photography and the muddy divides between truth and fiction, between honesty and aesthetics. there is a clinical detachment in style, and this movie is an extension of these interests, therefore the joke "morris's detached hand". but really, you should watch the movie before you get so hard-boiled.

5 for "genocide the musical", and if you'd seen it, you'd really get the joke.
yogarfield - 2013-07-26
shit. MEME I WAS TALKING TO YOU WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?
