Shoebox Joe - 2013-08-15 When ever I hear of shut in cartoonists, I can't help but be reminded of Howard Stern verbally beating on a freelance graphic designer.
Only thing hard about it is not becoming a worthless, self-important person. Which is pretty easily solved by stepping out of your house/minimal part-time work via temp agency.
Toenails - 2013-08-16 Being in a minimal part-time temp agency does help one in not feeling self-important.
But, it does a pretty damn good job of making one feel quite worthless also.
(Yeah, I get the point you are making)
Old_Zircon - 2013-08-16 I've always found it the opposite for me, the periods of time when I've worked exclusively from home have always affected my self esteem poorly, which is why I try to keep a part time job (preferably some kind of specialty retail) whenever possible - interacting with customers in a shop is great.
Temping is horrible though.
Sudan no1 - 2013-08-16 I always wondered about the character behind the cartoon, the mommy issues are not a big surprise.
TheOtherCapnS - 2013-08-18 There is so a weeping lady liberty! She's on the far right hand side of the second panel.
