Beat me to it.
Bless your little hearts, gamergaters. Keep fucking that chicken.
It's like Glenn Beck, JFK, Eisenhower, FDR, and some convenient Bush Jr. language got thrown into a blender. It even wraps up with "cultural Marxism", in some attempt to lend it an intellectual air.
Here's a golden quote: "They have forgotten that we are gamers. That we on a daily basis fight and die a thousand deaths in humiliating, ego shattering fashion, for perhaps a single taste of glory."
Things this is missing:
Patriotic background music
The sound of creator's mom bring him a grilled cheese in the background
Video games may not cause mass shootings or sexism or the obesity epidemic, but they did contribute to this, which is arguably far worse.

Yo, I really really want to believe this is a joke or troll. I don't know enough about nerds these days (I am a 90s-era nerd) so I honestly can't tell if there are actually kids who are this fucked in the head or not.
Somebody please enlighten me!

Think back about being a dumb, angry teenager.
Now, add in the access to world-wild communications, the protection and confidence of anonymity, several b-list "personalities" telling you that you're right and the notion that a good number of other like-minded angry teenagers stand beside you.
When I was young I assumed people like this were trolling until proven otherwise. Now that I'm older and have more life experience I default to assuming they're really this dumb.
Thanks, guys. In light of your remarks, I like to think that these kids represent a very small minority of fucked-up geeks with weak morals and unbalanced priorities.
Gamergate has moved beyond the point where it is possible to tell parody from reality. When whole internet blogs and forums are filled with GG supporters who make posts that sound like the diatribes of comic-book supervillains on a routine basis and signature their posts with pictures of Bane, V, and Abe Lincoln (or some combination thereof) there's really nowhere that parody can go.
You too, Homer! Go get your freebies at Applebees and the other corporate joints! I've had myself quite a feast today.

The dumb angry teenagers can be forgiven, The adults who lead them on are, ironically, everything they say Anita Sarkeesian is, hucksters looking for cheap glory and an easy buck. Thundert00l makes thousands for his shitty disingenuous videos. Davis Aurani? Huckster. And then the right wingers desperately trying to pick up some gullible disaffected youth. Read an article yesterday suggesting that the liberal media had timed the coverage of GamerGate to coincide with the midterms. WHAAAT? That RW site calls itself "boldly inclusive" but it didn't print my comment.
"boldly inclusive" is code for 'we'll let you be racist'
At the end of the day, I'm glad that I still don't know exactly what GamerGate is. I'm not going to google it, and I am perversely proud that my circle of friends don't seem to know about it either.
Never Forget, this one's for the campers.

Regular reminder that this all started when a crazy loser begged 4chan to ruin his ex-girlfriend's life.
MacGyver Style Bomb
It was building up for years, something was going to set it off eventually. The fact that it was a jilted boyfriend trying to get back at his ex just makes it more stupid.

By the way, if you're hungry for a schadenfreude sandwich, check out what happened when a 'gater tried to recruit bitcoiners to the cause:
You'll never have more respect for bitcoiners, that's for damn sure.
Yeah I was surprised at how anti-gg the coiners are. I guess the fygm libertarian assholes at least have some semblance of morality...
This is pretty good too:
I just started reading that Reddit thread and it's amazing.

I was 1000% sure I was getting Poed here, but then I saw this:
Capitalism in the works of #GamerGate
1. Structural objectivism and pretextual semantic theory
“Class is intrinsically responsible for capitalism,” says Debord. Thus, Derrida promotes the use of subcapitalist libertarianism to challenge the status quo. The primary theme of Reicher’s analysis of capitalism is a mythopoetical whole. But the subject is interpolated into a pretextual semantic theory that includes truth as a paradox. Sartre suggests the use of the neotextual paradigm of context to deconstruct and modify class. Therefore, the main theme of the works of #GamerGate is not, in fact, theory, but posttheory. If preconceptual cultural theory holds, we have to choose between capitalism and posttextual objectivism. It could be said that the subject is contextualised into a pretextual semantic theory that includes art as a reality. Cameron implies that we have to choose between subcultural narrative and deconstructivist capitalism.
2. Narratives of failure
If one examines the neotextual paradigm of context, one is faced with a choice: either accept precapitalist discourse or conclude that consensus is a product of the masses. However, several theories concerning the genre, and eventually the meaninglessness, of textual narrativity exist. The example of pretextual semantic theory depicted in #GamerGate’s Mason & Dixon is also evident in V, although in a more neocapitalist sense. It could be said that Sontag promotes the use of Baudrillardist hyperreality to challenge class divisions. A number of discourses concerning capitalism may be discovered. Therefore, the subject is interpolated into a pretextual semantic theory that includes culture as a totality. The characteristic theme of Hamburger’s essay on capitalism is the bridge between sexual identity and society.
3. #GamerGate and pretextual semantic theory
“Sexual identity is part of the economy of art,” says Lacan. It could be said that Baudrillard’s critique of dialectic nationalism states that truth has significance. If the neotextual paradigm of context holds, the works of #GamerGate are modernistic. Thus, several modernisms concerning not theory per se, but subtheory exist. The subject is contextualised into a pretextual semantic theory that includes language as a whole. In a sense, the main theme of the works of #GamerGate is a self-sufficient totality. In Mason & Dixon, #GamerGate analyses the postcapitalist paradigm of narrative; in Vineland, however, he affirms the neotextual paradigm of context. But an abundance of constructions concerning pretextual semantic theory may be found. The fatal flaw of deconstructive narrative intrinsic to #GamerGate’s Gravity’s Rainbow emerges again in Mason & Dixon.

The saddest thing.
This is worse than if D&D addicts reminiscing about "battles" their characters had been in, using military terminology and greeting each other with "Semper Fi."
I see this shit going by on Twitter and the enormous level of cognitive dissonance slavishly following a few Bill O'Reilly wanna-be torch-bearers is beyond sad. It's also frightening how well it works to gain recruits. It makes me wonder how far everyone is from being seduced by a cult. :(

They're going to play this in history classes someday, to roomfuls of teary-eyed children.
First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.
In the case of GamerGate it's more like "first they laugh at you, then they laugh at you some more, then you make yourself look like a sociopathic ass and people keep laughing at you, then people laugh even more, then you become marginalized for being a fucktard."
In honor of our fallen GG heroes on this Veterans Day, Lids® hat store will be offering one free fedora to all surviving heroes.*
*proof of harassment of a radical feminist, social justice warrior, or beta/white knight must be provided at point of purchase in the form of a signed screenshot printout of said harassment. If the GG member is illiterate, an X drawn in cheeto dust will be accepted in lieu of a signature.
Oh, they have to bring proof?
Their word isn't enough for you?!
YOU FUCKING LOWLIFE!!!!
Wait does this dude think that "social justice warriors" call themselves that, and not that it was a shitty phrase come up with by people who wanted to discredit an ideology of people actually having equal rights?
I thought it originated as more of a pejorative against people who aggressively try to police tone on social media but don't do anything concrete/hashtag activists/etc. - the identity politics counterpart to "internet tough guys" - and only more recently got picked up by the sort of neckbeards who use it as a pejorative for anyone who calls them out on being socially stunted misogynists, but maybe that's wishful thinking.
Well, yeah, that's true. Once upon a time SJW meant Tumblr-social-justice folks who would go and attack people for anything that could be even slightly misconstrued as racist/sexist/ableist/ageist/speciesist/etc. and often went off the deep end trying to "help" people who actually didn't want that "help." (e.g. going off on someone for using the word "crazy" because it's "ableist")
But now it's being used as a pejorative against pretty much anyone who isn't a bigoted asshole. And the people being called SJWs in that context only started calling themselves that to reclaim it as a "I'd rather be an SJW than a shithead."
Good to hear someone verify that it used to mean what I thought it used to mean, because I used it (in the old sense) one time like a year ago and even that's closer association with these GG douches than I'm comfortable with.
Same. I'd rather be lumped in with SJWs than with the sort of people who think that SJW is an insult.
I mean, if I'm going to be lumped in with anyone, which seems to be the only way any discourse happens online anymore.
|John Holmes Motherfucker |
I'm now convinced that GamerGate's plan is to physically and mentally incapacitate the SJWs by way of self-inflicted concussions, induced through repeated and intensive facepalming.
Ugh. From the description: "CORRUPTION. COLLUSION. CULTURAL MARXISM. NEVER AGAIN. THE MILLIONS OF GAMING DEAD REMIND US."
Let me paraphrase the exchange over that last sentence:
"What do you mean 'dead?'"
"There was an article that said gamers are dead."
"So not really dead."
"It's a metaphor."
"But you didn't say 'dead', you said DEAD."
"You obviously don't understand what a metaphor is."
"Is this like when you GG'ers see someone tweet that they wish so-and-so GG'er would just fuck off and say that's a rape threat, but a GG'er tweeting a photo of a masked dude holding gun at the camera is just a joke?"
"Fuck you. Blocked. Shill. Corruption. Ethics."
Blocking really has ruined the internet, hasn't it?
Guys like that used to be shouted out of communities or slapped into having some sense, but now they can just filter out any world views that hurt their delicate feelings.

How is MANBABIES not a linked tag?
possibly due to actual group of "manbabies" being so rare before GG...even we were only used one "manbaby" per video or idiotic thought.
Incidentally, the neuromarketing industry (which is a real thing) has been developing techniques for creating manbabies for decades, because manbabies are perfect customers for the useless plastic junk that our economy has been built on for the last 75 years or so.
I'm not going to weigh in on whether or not I think it works because I don't pretend to know, but there certainly has been a manbaby bubble growing since the 80s.
Damn, Zircon, that link was depressing.
