McCarthy, now with 50% more punctuation!
I'm curious to see it, despite the horrible reviews. Outer Dark is probably in my top 5 books and we all know No Country was a good movie and I called bullshit on it, saying it was unfilmable. I said the same thing about Inherent Vice. So really, it just depends on the director. I heard The Road was like World War Z bullshit and missed the point, so I didn't see it, but Ridley Scott's a good director, arguably the most influential auteur of the late 20th century. I heard this movie was poop but I kinda find that hard to believe.

Nominal - 2015-02-03 I'm one of the people who defends the "boring" end to No Country (hint: the protagonist is actually Tommy Lee Jones), and even I thought movie version of The Road was pointless meandering crap.

lotsmoreorcs - 2015-02-03 Nobody should get Blood Meridian. Some things should remain as they are.
By that same token, the only person who could truly bring life to that tale is Michael Bay. Pound for pound. If you're going to get a cheeseburger, you might as well get the fattest, most artery clogging one you can find.

infinite zest - 2015-02-03 I'm with Lotsmoreorcs on this one. I'll bet if Blood Meridian were done in Michael Bay style, and directed by Bay, all he'd have to do was get an "Alan Smithee" name, or just make up some foreign-sounding name, and it'd be pretty perfect, and win all the movie awards ever. They'd just quit doing the oscars altogether.

With the Counselor Cormac McCarthy proved he deserved all the shit B.R. Myers gave him in "A Reader's Manifesto" and more; multiple scenes where the A-list cast could barely conceal their embarrassment at the lines they had to deliver straight-faced
"But nothing is crueler than a coward, and I think the slaughter that is coming will be beyond our imagination."
"I think you've told me more than I wished to hear."
"Then I shall say no more. Let's order dessert."
The plot is a cheap imitation of the kind of garbage Tarantino-wannabes were making 20 years ago, and the style apes that as well with most scenes consisting of overwrought dialogue that a college sophomore might think sounded philosophical.

Aside from a few good scenes this movie was pretty much unwatchable. The actors really seem to be struggling to figure out what movie they're in.
I'm convinced that given the writer, actors, and director involved it could have worked. But it probably didn't help that Ridley Scotts brother committed suicide halfway through filming.
