Once politicians started getting involved with regulation of the pharma industry due to this guy's antics, his days were numbered. The pressure brought to bear on the prosecutors by his "peers" must have been substantial. Martin's real problem is that he is a nobody. That is to say, he lacks family or political connections. Such people are the first to be thrown to the wolves when the time comes to offer up the occasional scrap of meat.
Let's see you like ham NOW, you ugly dummy!

I hope his prison food is especially shitty.
Spoiled fucking sociopathic cunt.
ROUS did you read this?
this is from yesterday. It's one of the more insane interviews I've ever read. I guess he'll have time to perfect his rap game now.
Rodents of Unusual Size
"If Ghostface can make people disappear, what the fuck do you think I can do?"
The entire thing. It's just...holy shit this man is insane.
It gets better. This isn't from the Onion:
Fuck Christmas, December 17th is my favorite new holiday.
actually that's probably satirical but I don't care! I want to believe!
Thank you IZ, you just made my day.
Rodents of Unusual Size
the New Yorker thing was actually borrowed from a parody site, though I admit I really wanted it to be real when I first read it.
I eagerly await his sentencing.
He's the born-in-the-80's CEO and/or pharma CEO out of like a dozen screenplays, come to life.
no, he's just every hedge fund manager (non-fiction) except the others are smart enough to keep their evil out of the spotlight.
Yeah the New Yorker thing is totes fake, but what isn't fake is that he resigned today, and the new interim CEO vowed to make Daraprim affordable again. The only thing that can possibly make this better is if the Wu Tang release an album dissing this little shit and give it away for free to the public.
C'mon, Rza, I know you're reading this.. do it!
They should just release the one of a kind one free, it'd be a nice extra kick in the ass for him and would also elevate the album a bit, since frankly selling a one of a kind album for mil is some Damien Hirst grade horseshit that would have lowered my opinion of them as artists regardless of who they sold it to and this is a chance for them to redeem themselves a bit.
Because honestly, Shkreli is exactly the demographic that bankrolls the art industry, and fuck the art industry.

I've never seen newspeople smile so much unless it's some cat video on the local news or something, or Al Roker wishing happy birthday to centennials. Yay!
Rodents of Unusual Size
This is the best Christmas present the newspeople could ask for!
It's heartwarming. The entire country should get together with their families next week and celebrate their victory over fascist corporate Albanian psychopaths.
His final twitter exchange was calling a dude a hater and said hater warning him of hubris
The only way it could be better would be if he had replies, "whatever, I buy and sell nemesis like human lives. I think I'll buy Mount Olympus!"
Yeah, I've been following his twitter page for a while now. Just a few days ago he made a Bernie Sanders diss in the form of "TAXoplasmosis." It really makes that whole Bush correspondent dinner joke about looking for WMDs under the couch of the oval office or whatever seem kinda innocent in comparison.
|That guy |
"don't be mad"
^ what he said when people called him evil for hiking drug prices a jillion percent
No one seems to mind that pharmacies sell homeopathy. What is the markup on that?
comparing a patent protected life-saving medicine to snake oil is stupid enough that I'm completely not surprised you did it.
The point is that society does much worse to patients than this guy solro. Check the revenues and margins on supplements/homeopathy and compare to Daraprim. Come back after you completed your work
Who gives a shit?
Supplements aren't life-saving.
Well, neither is Daraprim.. it helps but it's at best as quick a fix as medical marijuana, which relieves many of the same symptoms, so it's not as evil as being the one grocery store in town that starts selling bottled water for 0 a bottle after a drought. I know a few people who have AIDS and they'd never heard of Daraprim before this. The guy's still a scumbag but he just did in one fell swoop what big pharma's been doing forever. Also, supplements/miracle cures DO claim to save lives, much moreso than Daraprim ever promised; since they're not evaluated by the FDA they can save your life, make your dick grow three sizes, you name it. Just watch Dr. Oz or Jim Bakker or visit your local fuckshop.
Love & Vomit
You think medical marijuana is used to treat toxoplasmosis in immunocompromised individuals? Are you fucking stupid?
It's not the best analogy in the world, but the drug's meant to treat malaria, not AIDS. So it's the same as saying the pot cures cancer, which it doesn't, it just helps. And ten years ago cancer patients had to deal with similar bullshit, the only difference is that it wasn't FDA approved.
Love & Vomit
Daraprim isn't used to treat AIDS, it is used to treat parasitic protozoans that cause illnesses such as malaria and toxoplasmosis. Most people can be infected by the Toxoplasma gondii protozoa without suffering any symptoms, but people with weakened immune symptoms can develop toxoplasmosis, which can be fatal. That is why the media refers to it as an AIDS drug, but it is not used to treat HIV or its symptoms.

Bail to be set at 40 billion dollars. Itís what the market will bear.
Karma is a bitch, bitch.

This guy is what would happen if Looten Plunder and Montana Max had a baby.
(Only 90s kids will get this joke)
To hell with due process, FREE THE ALBUM!
Laugh now, this man will be our president in 2036.
Hell, it's three years away from being able to run himself.
Although it'd be great, very wealthy people don't go to prison.
Sanest Man Alive
He's posted his own bail already (surprise), but it's not all bad news! It's coming to light that this guy has barely any stable finances to his name, and he's basically been living from one embezzlement to the next, like a dashing art thief but without the witty banter or any sense of discretion whatsoever. With Shrekli locked down to NY, the feds seizing his shit as evidence, and the original scandal of his medication price-gouging still fresh in the public's minds, it's possible he won't recover (well, not until some other dime-a-dozen, greed-stupid exec with no long-term memory hires him on, but let's not dash our own hopes yet).
So yeah, this guy's small-time compared to our nation's awesomely well-heeled dynasties; the Rothschilds wouldn't piss on this guy if he was on fire.
Didn't Madoff post his own bail too? That didn't get him too far in the long run..
I guess seriously I feel like he's young enough to learn from his mistakes, unlike others running Ponzi schemes, who are old enough to know better. It's like he legitimately thinks he can live out the life of a Wu Tang song. I think it was Chappelle that said that every member of Wu Tang would be locked up for like 300 years if most of what they rapped about was actually true.
I still have no sympathy for the kid (heh he's my age but acts like he's ten) but no matter the outcome I hope this is the first time he actually feels a slap in the face, having lost all of his friends and now a bunch of his stuff. Prison or not, he's forever in jail in his mind unless he changes.
Or better yet, just do what they did with CWC and say no internet for a year, but actually enforce it. Without the internet he is a very lonely rich guy with no friends in the world. Fuck, I'd choose prison over that if I were him.
If these people ever got what they deserved, the rest of them would try harder to earn an honest living. The only lesson this guy might/should learn is that when you're on TV and in magazines all the time defending your actions, the only thing that filters down to the common man is the inherent confirmation that you did the thing. Nobody would ever know anything about this guy if he wasn't on TV being a total lunatic.
Before the fraud charges, this guys worst problem was the lack of foresight needed to buy a good a PR manager. Morality has nothing to do with it.
what a shame

I can't tell you people how happy this makes me.

Yay! A white-collar criminal will be temporarily inconvenienced then learn to keep a low profile once he goes back to being shitty.
He has no friends, he has no assets, and he pissed off the FBI.
He will go to prison for a long time.
Given Pharma-Bro's fraud is years old and pretty brazen, how many others have gotten away with crimes just not being assholes? I'm willing to bet it's been more than a few.
The question remains whether this is selective prosecution or a case of ramping up enforcement generally.
Pretty much everyone responsible for the financial collapse got away...a couple peons that actually pushed the fraudulent loans onto old people got tried, I think, but everyone above them got off clean.
