Since 2016's been full of deaths that have literally made me cry, it kinda feels good to be pretty numb. I wish his family and friends condolences and the best and all but a shrug's about all you're gonna get from me.

Just picture how piss soaked his grave will eventually be. It will be like a swamp over there.

"The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones."
Scalia's bones will have plenty of leg room.
I'm glad he's no longer part of SCOTUS and is gone from this plane of existence, but I've had asshole ignorant racist homophobic grandparents-in-laws that I hated too, but I still went to their funerals and watched their own children cry and did my best to comfort them because they lost someone they love regardless of their views. If that makes me a sentimentalist then OK, fine.
I think harmless racist grandparents are a bit different than a harmful piece of shit (politician or otherwise).
SolRo no doubt. Scalia's dead and that's that, and the damage he did will last a hundred years maybe more, but he was somebody's father just like anyone else. Like I said this gets a shrug from me at best, just like Nixon, Wallace, Reagan, and Thurmond. Just means I'm gonna drink a 40 instead of pour one, or something like that.
a sentimentalist, yes. a crushing bore, a vain self indulgent fool, a facile moralist? yes.
btw rich families don't actually love each other. they don't have to. in fact, no one's emotional wellbeing hinged on scalia being alive except maybe clarence thomas's.
I thought this was going to be a link to LMFAO's 'Party Rock Anthem'. This should be a link to LMFAO's 'Party Rock Anthem'.
I second most of that emotion:
Breaking: Clarence Thomas announces plans to die in his sleep at age 79.
He didn't get to hear Kanye's new album :'(

DING FUCKING DONG
See I can post that here due to relative anonymity but over on Facebook people I went to college with get their undies in a bunch over that statement.
Good riddance and don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.
Down side: Election season just got a whole lot shittier.
specific to Scalia, you ought to be able to say that anywhere
and if someone disagrees, who needs 'em
also, election season was already off the hook, wasn't it?

McConnell said they won't allow a vote on any Obama-appointed justice.
I wonder if he realizes that, with one right-wing Justice gone and one swing-voting Justice still there, the court is still more left-wing than it's been in ages.
It's irrelevant as long as Republican voters think they're pissing off the hippies.

I predict there won't be a ninth Supreme Court Justice until after the start of the next Congress. Best case scenario, Democrats win the Presidency and take back the Senate, and fix the filibuster on day one.
The best fix for the filibuster: the finibustering minority has to remain in the chamber at all times, or else a simple minority can break the filibuster. After all, the point of the 60-vote cloture rule is to make sure a supermajority agrees a matter has been debated to completion, right? Well if a minority feels more debate is required, they should be forced to sit and watch the debate. That way the burden shifts on to them rather than being entirely on the majority, and they can still filibuster / debate important issues if they feel the need, but will not do so frivolously.
Side note, I'm having trouble reconciling the fact that Scalia caused enough harm to be considered an enemy of a great many Americans, with the fact that Ruth Bader Ginsburg considered him one of her closest friends and by all accounts genuinely had a genuine rapport with him. I'm trying to do what RBg would no doubt appreciate -- look for the good in him -- but I'm finding it very hard to see.
Out of respect for RBG, though, I will keep looking.
The happiest I've been since the NH primary.
Nobody ever said "Gosh, now that Benito Mussolini is dead, let's show him some respect."*
*because he was Italian, and I am sure as hell not comparing him to Sacco and Vanzetti.

Lord, we thank thee.
I don't want to be the sort of person that revels in the death of another.
I am very glad this resulted in him being removed from the court, tho.
