It's subtle, but if you notice, the crazy kid's minecraft house is lined with the heads of other players and when the admin breaks open his chests, the chests spill out heads.
So...if you're tempted to feel sorry for the screamy asshole being griefed here, keep in mind those are all the heads of other players. So, methinks this kid was a real piece of shit.
Scrotum H. Vainglorious
says the child molesting bronie who gave Chris Chan drinking his own semen 5 stars.
That is a false stereotype for adults who enjoy MLP:FIM, and about the ratings I was giving it 5 for evil. 5 for evil.
The two situations are not morally equivalent. Chris enjoyed drinking his semen and did so voluntarily; Russian kid was traumatized by his e-house destruction and had it imposed upon him against his will.
Now that is not to say the Russian child's torment was morally unjustifiable - the initiation of violence is immoral, but the use of violence as a response against violence is (I would argue) moral and just. If the Russian child was indeed violating his fellow players' rights to e-life and e-property, then yes, breaking his chests and deleting his house are acceptable uses of violence. HOWEVER, the fact that we even have to ask such questions demonstrates that this situation is very different from the one Chris found himself in.
tl;dr both Mr Scrotum and Mr Cena are in error.
There's also the question of proportionality, which is not always determined by "eye for an eye" considerations but also the impact it has. This kid was doubtless being a problem to other players, who probably responded with a little grumbling and a note to the admin and otherwise got over it. So some sort of discipline, and probably banning, was in order. But the way this kid is responding should have been a sign to the admin that he needs to change how he goes about it. No the kid was not going to be happy no matter what, but the admin chose the path of maximum trauma.
This is the theological conundrum of hell writ very very small.
I don't know, Mr Bort. While I agree that proportionality is important, I believe the way you are interpreting proportionality could lead to problems.
For example, you say the other players "probably" responded with grumbling. How do we know? What evidence is there to suggest that his victims were not deeply affected by his griefing? Given that this child apparently preyed upon dozens of other individuals, I think it's reasonable to assume that at least some suffered serious trauma as a result. Furthermore, your position would seem to imply that justice must be scaled to one's -ability to withstand- torment. i.e. the punishment must fit the criminal, not the crime. Is that really fair? Is that really just? If you and I robbed a bank, and I cried like a bitch when Batman caught us, while you remained stoic and strong, would it therefore be right if Batman released me with a stern warning, but sent you to prison for twenty years?
In my mind, proportionality would mean that admin could not punish a griefer by sending a SWAT team to his house, or hunting him down and killing him IRL. Griefing a griefer is perfectly proportional, regardless of his emotional state.
Let's also keep in mind that this is a fucking game. In my world-view, any kid that would scream and act like this over a game deserves to have it torn down and taken away for their own good.
This kid inflicted god knows how much emotional hurt and damage to other kids on this server. It is not everyone's responsibility to be "nice" to fucked up shitheads just because AUTISM or whatever. It's his fucking server, the kid was a piece of shit, he fucked with him and banned him. End of story. Fuck that kid.
Homie : If what was done to the kid is violence, his keeping heads and body parts in chests qualifies as pure horror incarnate.
Oscar : There is a way to reach them, it's a totalitarian government combined with radical genetic engineering. I would prefer, however, that we have some class and just engineer it out of their kids while patiently waiting for them to die of natural causes. A planned geno-psyche extinction event.
Anaxagoras :Lex Talionis was invented as an improvement to killing whole families for an eye. You will find very few people who lack the bloodlust necessary to stick to that, most humans want mass murder for everything that scares them. This kid is par for the species and yes, assholes are born every single day out of the carnivore ape DNA that mandates it.
Bort : Remember the Laws of the Chipmunk Grinder. 1.) If two benign chipmunks interact, one may become violent. 2.) A violent chipmunk begets other violent chipmunks through interaction. 3.) The Chipmunk Continuum is an explosion of mass violence, called "war", punctuated with times of isolated violence, called "peace." 4.) You never EVER stick your hand in the Chipmunk Grinder to try and stop them, that is insane. 5.) Four is less insane than the very idea, let alone the act, of taking sides in the Chipmunk Grinder to bring their violence to a state of non-violence by utilizing their violence. Seriously, if that worked they'd have done it by accident and all you're doing is going chipmunk native, which is the end of your humanity and the perpetuation of the Chipmunk Grinder. Nothing in this video is relevant to this, since it's a fucking video game, but you're wrapped a lot in the real world, which should be taken far less seriously than Minecraft.
Just assume this was double posted below and involved everyone, except you, Stanley and Zack. Being in agreement, I couldn't think of something pretentious and Cliff Claven-y to say to you.
"Let's also keep in mind that this is a fucking game. In my world-view, any kid that would scream and act like this over a game deserves to have it torn down and taken away for their own good."
Yes yes, the eternal justification for being an asshole: "he had it coming." It worked on that annoying faggy kid in junior high, it works on this asshole kid, it's a perfect excuse every time.
Except, at some point, if you answer assholery with assholery, you are part of the problem yourself and perhaps you should stop being an asshole. This admin could easily do so. To be sure the admin was right to ban this kid and the kid was going to pitch a fit no matter what, but that's not what I have a problem with. I take issue with the admin being as big of an asshole as he could in the process, when the kid was clearly not coping.
Bort, the guy who believes in unlimited drone strikes contrary to other nations' sovereignty and regardless of civilian casualties, is sickened by a game server admin banning a problem player. Truly an amazing line to cross.
Wait, did he smash up a couple virtual chests before he did it? OMG someone contact The Hague!

I can take no joy in this. It's one thing to mess with someone else online, but it's another thing to push them past the point where they can deal with it, and the victim here obviously can't.
And no, it doesn't matter that the victim is taking Minecraft too seriously.
I can't even "five for evil" this.
Nope. The kid's obviously not right in the head, for whatever reason.
Even if he's "mentally ill," this is not a good way to deal with his problems, and his family, if he has one, should intervene. Likely, he was a total ass on the server, and people got tired of playing with him.
People with mental problems have to learn to deal with their issues just like everyone else, and if they can't, they need to be medicated.
My money is on that he isn't mentally ill at all, he's part of a small generation of neglected children from middle class families who have projected their entire lives and egos into the virtual world. Pulling the plug is doing them a favor.
But how come we all find DanielFomSL's Second Life trolling pretty funny? Is it the fact that it's fully grown adults? The SL universe seems a lot more messed up than the Minecraft universe to me, and yet it's still funny to see shit go down.
I agree that this kid probably needs to be removed from Minecraft.
But the admin was also delighting in pushing the kid to a meltdown, and I can't be cool with that.
I'm cool with it. Yes, it's possible he had actual mental problems, but I've met plenty of kids (and adults!) who behave just like him who don't have diagnosable mental issues.
No, they're just people who have never learned self-control or consideration for their fellow man. They're full of rage at Lord-knows-what and they're taking it out on anybody they can reach. In short, they're assholes.
Yes, he was a kid. Well, kids can be assholes, and tormenting an asshole (regardless of his age) is a good thing, up to a point. The point which shouldn't be crossed is that the asshole shouldn't be hounded down in the real world & harassed in other venues, because then they can never reform. (How can you change your behavior if you can never get away from your harassers? They endlessly remind you of & taunt you with your asshole past.) But this video? This is harassing the asshole in the appropriate venue.
Fuck this kid.
There is a belief I have struggled with most of my life, and I'm sure you share it. It claims that it is possible to show people the error of their ways by doing to them what they do to you.
This belief is entirely mistaken. I doubt that ever in the history of the human race that this has actually worked. On that basis, the actions of the admin can be found wanting. Otherwise, it's a game, and this boy has tugged on superman's cape...
BTW, try applying the above reasoning to Christ's injunction to "do unto others as you would have them do unto you". Terrifying, no? For if you can't affect peoples behavior by reflecting their bad actions, is it any more likely you'd be able to affect it with beneficial ones? Neither God nor the Devil have much understanding of the talking monkey.
I don't think you should reflect their actions with the hope that they'll see the error of their ways. I know that almost always fails; people just get more outraged.
No, I think it should be done because of my idea of justice. This kid (and badly-behaved people in general) are making other (completely innocent) people unhappy for no other reason than their own vitriol & awfulness. So reflecting some of that awfulness back on them is fair and just. If the experience makes them stop & realize that they're being little shits, that's even better. But it's not the main purpose, IMO, of holding up a mirror to them.
Having said that, nobody is inherently asshole, so following & harassing an asshole is not OK, because you're never giving them a chance to *stop* being an asshole. Also, the "eye for an eye" thing breaks down when you start considering more serious transgressions like theft & murder. First, those kinds of actions can't really be reflected. (No, the death penalty doesn't really reflect "murder" back to the criminal. It's something else entirely.) Second, once you reach the more serious transgressions, we've entered the realm of formal, institutional punishments. That's an entirely different ball of wax, and any attempt to "reflect" criminals' crimes in that setting is almost always excessive & immoral. (e.g. The entire prison system in the U.S. right now.)
So sayeth I, a random Guy on the Internet.

Can the admin record from the player's PoV
|misterbuns - 2016-02-21 |
the kid was griefing not being griefed.
if you pay attention to what is happening, youlll notice that what started this whole thing was the admin being griefed by the kid, then going into godmode and uncovering all of the kid's stolen loot and body parts from other players.
Damn, I used to play Minecraft for a little while with a few other people who lived in my apartment complex; usually someone would go out to the bar or pass out and leave their guy logged in and we'd build some tower and put him on top of the world just to be dicks, or create a bat infestation in their home. In fact that's the only reason to play Minecraft.

This has been floating around gaming channels a lot lately, so I kinda wanted to clarify;
the person shooting the video (of which a lot of the boring parts were edited) is a server admin, and received a bunch of complaints from players about a griefer. When he went to see for himself, the beginning part of the video happened where he was killed and looted. He tried to talk with the kid a few dozen times to replies of 'fuck off' at the nicest, and eventually this happened.
This is one of those grey areas, really. Sure, it's mean to bad the kid and smashing up their house before doing it was a little harsh, but it's not hard to understand the frustration that lead up to that point, and you really don't want to have people like that running free on your servers, fucking up everyone else's creations and killing them constantly while being unable to handle the same. Your server is better off without him there, and he could clearly use the break.

Every mmorpg I've ever played has had a few players like this. I won't attempt any sort of armchair psychoanalysis on this kid, but he does fit a profile I am familiar with.
This kid is the extremely vulgar, hyper-negative, unrepentant online harassing, death threat making, comicly over-the-top megatroll.
It is glorious to watch him get his comeuppance. Considering how anti-GG the comments here always are, I'd have expected more agreement on that. It's odd that people would would react so negatively to gamergaters and then have pity on this troll due to "mental illness" and being "griefed" by an admin.
|M-DEEM - 2016-02-21 |
Kid is screaming like someone is ACTUALLY in his house. 1:06 had me howling.
This gives me an idea for a CSI episode where a serial killer targets angry people while they're online, and nobody suspects that they're being killed because they're always screaming anyway.
as long as your script contains the line "Where do you think you release your cock here, fucker?" it's a go
Yeah that's the stuff.
