This was kinda neat. I liked it. I thought, hey! Maybe Steven Universe ain't so bad after all? I like Peridot, I like One Gem Metal Bands, maybe I should listen to Cena and give it a shot?
But then I went to check for more information about the episode this clip was taken from, and lo n' behold I found this:

*sigh* Just when I think I'm getting in, they pull me right back out.

EvilHomer - 2016-09-11 "This episode caused controversy when it first aired. This was due to some aggressive fans of the show attacking writer Lauren Zuke over Twitter due to this episode's possible subtext of a hint of Lapis and Peridot having a relationship. Many fans of the show often like to come up with their own non-canon romantic pairs in shows (commonly referred to as "Shipping"). Many aggressive "shippers" of Amethyst and Peridot (commonly referred to as "Amedot") attacked and harassed Zuke for "negating" the Amethyst-Peridot ship in this episode. Some fans also saw the Lapis-Peridot moments in this episode as "queer-baiting", which means either (depending on context) teasing queer fans with a possible ship that never comes to fruition, or bringing up a character’s sexual orientation to encourage homophobic attacks against them. This ultimately lead to Zuke deleting her Twitter account, which she commonly used to share art about the show, stating "I decided I don’t want to be accessible to thousands of people who think because I work on a TV show that I owe them myself all the time""

SolRo - 2016-09-11 The real debate is should the cauldron for boiling obsessive pony fans or gem fans group be fueled by the bodies of the other group

EvilHomer - 2016-09-11 It's more than "a few" idiots. The MLP fanbase, I could deal with THOSE idiots, because they do things like raising money to help hospitalized victims of bullying. But the SU fanbase? They're murdering each other and terrorizing the show's writers into hiding.
If Bronies are the Hippies of the modern autist world, then Gemmies are the Chinese Cultural Revolutionaries. It's sick, and I'll have no part of it!
Cena_mark - 2016-09-11 Even so, one can enjoy a show without being part of the fandom. The fandom as a whole has condemned those acts.
You also left out another crime of the SU fandom which was the Keystone Motel controversy. It really wasn't that big a deal, but you'll likely make it out to be the crime of the century.

Cena_mark - 2016-09-11 Xenocide, what's wrong with the brony fandom other than the "Durr hurr, that show's for little girls" nonsense?
Xenocide - 2016-09-11 This has nothing to do with the "it's for little girls" nonsense. Plenty of people watch MLP and just stay away from the shithole that is the fandom. But bronies in particular have basically merged with the idiots on /pol/ and Reddit to form some kind of cartoon gamergate cult dedicated to harassing feminist fans of the show, which is amazingly ironic given that the show's creator is arguably the most outspoken feminist in the cartoon industry.
But there are tons of people who watch MLP every week without joining in on that shitshow. You'll never enjoy anything if you can't separate a work from its worst fans. If I can read The Catcher in the Rye without wanting to murder one of the Beatles*, I can sure as hell watch Steven Universe without harassing people on Twitter.
*I cannot, however, read it without wanting to murder JD Salinger. Get over yourself, you dead prick!
Cena_mark - 2016-09-11 I didn't realize that part of the MLP fandom. Homer conveniently left that out.
J.D. Salinger wasn't Holden Caufield. He wasn't a withdrawn spoiled school boy, he was a withdrawn vet who saw some of the nastiest battles in WW2.

baleen - 2016-09-12 This thread makes me want to kill myself.
Cena_mark - 2016-09-12 Cartoons and their fandoms are pretty serious things baleen. I suggest you get into cartoons and get involved in a fandom.
Xenocide - 2016-09-12 Oh my God, Baleen is JD Salinger!

It's kind of too bad that in the last decade, "metal" has become the dead parrot sketch of music.
Cena_mark - 2016-09-11 There's like a hundred different genres of metal, I'm sure there's some metal somewhere that you'd like.
Maggot Brain - 2016-09-11 Metal music was always an excuse for gay hook ups.
Old_Zircon - 2016-09-12 I like a lot of metal, I've been listening to metal in its various flavors longer than any other kind of music except Tchaikovsky and Weird Al. That's why I find it mildly disappointing that "metal" as a meme is turning in to one of those things that makes your skin crawl because of all the nerd-culture/fandom wank that's getting stuck to it these days.
Not even a criticism of this video in particular, just a generalized gripe.
Monty Python were great, too, but I haven't been able to sit through that Dead Parrot sketch in about 20 years because it's permanently associated with hearing insufferably annoying people misquoting it at the drop of a hat literally thousands of times.
Old_Zircon - 2016-09-12 I was in middle school at the absolute peak of the golden era of thrash.
EvilHomer - 2016-09-12 I was in middle school right after the end of the Third Wave of Black Metal. Most of my middle and high school years were spent in the golden age of Scandinavian Melodic Death Metal, particularly the Gothenberg Scene and the Finnish Neo-classical Revival.
It's still good, but all these Djent fanboys really have to get over themselves. :(

I don't care for this show, but I am not a child, so my opinions may be disregarded.
Cena_mark - 2016-09-12 This show reaches far beyond the ages of children. It's rated TVPG. It has very intense shit.

Steven Universe is the best thing I've watched in ages, and Peridot is the best character in it. Others can diagree about Peri, it's personal. (I have a thing for powerful nerds learning how to live life to the fullest -- speaking of which, oh my God "Last One Out of Beach City", oh my God.) But if you don't enjoy SU, you've somehow lost your capacity for wonder.
