Or it could actually just be racism and general anti-social hatred of a segment of the American populace who are angry about being marginalized into the wrong side of history because they are human garbage.
Also, I'm not clear on how "political correctness" really has much to do with the massive voter fraud and state-level GOP corruption that ACTUALLY contributed to the Trump win.
But I guess actual, tangible things like these can't be dressed up into pseudo-philosophical hipster garbage that you can make your living on when you have no actual *real*, sincere, cohesive ideas to contribute to the world of contemporary philosophy.
No, the neoliberal wing of Democrats have forgotten how to communicate with the working class without looking down their noses at the spine of the country.
Please be a little less smug. Unless you wish to see Trump coast to a second term.
'If women must “vote with our vaginas” then, it would seem that the choice between two candidates where one grabs pussies while the other leaves them exposed to poverty, death, and rape, resulted in what would appear to be the least overtly violent figure. That is if you are not a white woman living outside the neoliberal dream of 401k or hedge fund accounts. To think that Trump could possibly have been the more class-conscious and feminist choice of the two might seem surreal to many, but the Realpolitik of this election demonstrates that Hillary Clinton was unable to mobilise support from the working class or women. As Lorna Garano notes: “One problem with the Bernie Bro myth: He had massive support from women. That’s because things like healthcare, education, and a liveable wage are women’s issues. You can’t eat symbolism.”'
The evangelicals elected trump, and they weren't voting for a candidate, they were voting for a political party. They were willing to look past the horrible things trump said and did because he was the presidential candidate for the right.
We shall see if they regret their decision. If they do NOT, then I say that another 4 years of trump is an easy possibility, assuming that he doesn't get impeached first.
Can you elaborate?. Being non american I have not followed the details of their policies. But what will Trump do to prevent exposure to poverty, rape and death for women that Hillary will not?
Trump is going to deport all the Mexican rapists.
Pillager, Trump won because working class dumbasses don't know what's best for themselves. They think lower taxes on the rich, ending ACA, and privatizing social security is best for them. WE liberals know what's best, but these dumb fuckers are too stupid to understand it. Clinton lost because the working class are dumb, gullible, racists.
Clinton lost because the media has continually fed the developing young minds on email scandals, "shrill" laughter, "insincere" pandering, and wall street speeches while completely glossing over seriously questionable activities by the other side.
Clinton lost because one side voted their hate and the other side stayed home because they didn't "like" the choice the establishment fed them.
Seriously, anyone else but Clinton would not have started out loaded down with all the media baggage. The problem is other than Bernie, who was never taken seriously by the media, who the hell else was there?
2016 needed Barack Obama a hell of a lot more than 2008 did.
Also if Hillary had lost to Romney in 2008 I don't think it would have been as bad as losing to Trump in 2016 is going to be.
With pleasure. Let's hear from State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki!
Q: Name Clinton’s top achievement,
A:“I am certain that those who were here at the time, who worked hard on that effort, could point out one.”
She's being modest. Hillary's neocon foreign policy wrecked a stable Libya & turned it into a hotbed of Isis vipers. But let's not cry over spilled hummus.
Enjoy how Syria is developing.
If HRC was elected we'd be at war with Russia & God knows who else, in no time.
I trust Trump not to needlessly provoke Russia. Hilldog's Coldwar nostalgia wears thin...
"Clinton lost because the working class are dumb, gullible, racists."
Virtue signalling & Stuffing people into a #basketofdeplorables isn't going take back lost territory. Reasoning with them & saying how we'll provide job training/spruce up the manufacturing base/make education affordable will go a lot farther than screaming "RACIST MISOGYNIST FASCIST SISTER FUCKER!!!" at a group who's been left out of the economic recovery.
"a stable Libya"
Oh you goddamn idiot. Libya was in the throes of a civil war, did you even know that? Of course you didn't, because like most of the modern Left all you know comes in 140-byte chunks that you uncritically consume.
Here's where the US involvement in Libya starts:
Since you won't read it, let me quote the opening paragraph for you:
"The Arab League has called on the United Nations Security Council to impose a no-fly zone over Libya in a bid to protect civilians from air attack in the ongoing battle against the more than 41-year rule of leader Muammar Gaddafi."
That is an article by al Jazeera, not some puppet of Western imperialists. And the United Nations Security Council did indeed vote to impose a no-fly zone -- a vote of 10 in favor, 0 against -- and that is the very no-fly zone that you're blaming Hillary for.
Did Libya later go to shit? Sure it did. And even at the time, people knew there was a chance that a Libya without Gadaffi might fall to chaos. But to do nothing and allow Gadaffi to massacre civilians was not an acceptable option to decent people. Seems to be the Left's preference these days, though.
Hillary didn't put them in that basket, they put themselves in that basket by being deplorable. Hillary just gave it a label right rightfully called them out as the racist shitheads they are.

I really do hope that one fine day you'll shut up about the goddamn basket of deplorables... but I think you're essentially correct. "Racism" has become the dumbed-down one word explanation for Trump, and it's just not sufficient. Trump happened for a shitload of reasons, beginning with the inability of the Republicans to come up with a serious candidate.
I'm going to post the link to David Brook's Feb 26 column again.
If there was one simple explanation for Trump, it would be that we don't want our politicians to be politicians any more. So the inexperienced, incompetent candidate beat the experienced competent candidate. Trump is easily more corrupt than Clinton, he flat-out swindled people out of their life savings with that University. But she's a real politician, so she seemed more corrupt.
That's cause Trump could just dismiss all of his wrong doings as "Being a good businessman". Right wingers have long wished for our government to be "run like a business", we'll see how it goes.

Here’s A List Of Hillary Clinton’s Accomplishments, So Quit Saying She Doesn’t Have Any
By Ryan Denson on April 13, 2015 1:52 am ·
There are many, many people who seem to think Hillary Clinton hasn’t accomplished anything. Apparently, being a First Lady, a Senator, as well as Secretary of State doesn’t count as accomplishments to her critics. But here is a very simple summary that encompasses Hillary Clinton and what she has accomplished throughout her life — Courtesy of a friend:
“First ever student commencement speaker at Wellesley College. Distinguished graduate of Yale Law School. Former Director of the Arkansas Legal Aid Clinic. Former civil litigation attorney. Former Law Professor at the University of Arkansas School of Law. Former First Lady of Arkansas. Former First Lady of the United States, and the first FLOTUS in US History to hold a postgraduate degree. First ex-FLOTUS in US History to be elected to the United States Senate. Elected by the… State of New York to serve two terms in the United States Senate. Former US Secretary of State. GRAMMY Award Winner. Author. Self proclaimed Pantsuit Aficionado. Married to a man named Bill, who plays the saxophone.”
You don’t have to like Hillary Clinton or her ideas. I get it. She’s a Democrat, a progressive (in most eyes), and conservatives don’t like that. However, you cannot say she does not have any accomplishments. Here are just a few:
Even though her major initiative, the Clinton healthcare plan, failed (due to Republican obstruction), you cannot deny that it laid ground for what we have today, the Affordable Healthcare Act, something Clinton supports and would continue.
She played a leading role in the development of State Children’s Health Insurance Program, which provides the much-needed state support for children whose parents cannot afford nor provide them with adequate healthcare coverage.
She was also instrumental in the creation of the Adoption and Safe Families Act and the Foster Care Independence Act.
Successfully fought to increase research funding for prostate cancer and asthma at the National Institute of Health (NIH).
She spearheaded investigations into mental illness plaguing veterans of the Gulf War; we now have a term for it – Gulf War Syndrome.
At the Department of Justice, she helped create the office on Violence Against Women.
She was instrumental in securing over $21 billion in funding for the World Trade Center redevelopment.
Took a leading role in the investigation of health consequences of first responders and drafted the first bill to compensate and offer the health services our first responders deserve (Clinton’s successor in the Senate, Kirsten Gillibrand, passed the bill).
Was instrumental in working out a bi-partisan compromise to address civil liberty abuses for the renewal of the U.S. Patriot Act.
Proposed a revival of the New Deal-era Home Owners’ Loan Corporation to help homeowners refinance their mortgages in the wake of the 2008 financial disaster.
Was a major proponent of sensible diplomacy which brought about a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel, and brokered human rights with Burma.
Oversaw free trade agreements with our allies such as Panama, Colombia, and South Korea.
Was the most traveled Secretary of State to date.
The Clinton Foundation, founded by her and her husband, has improved the living conditions for nearly 400 million people in over 180 countries through its Initiative program.
These are not all of her accomplishments. Her activism on behalf of women a children across the world is renowned. Her activism for raising the minimum wage and combating climate change is stellar. You do not have to support what she does or stands for. But do not say she doesn’t have any accomplishments. The conservatives who say this are the ones who are pushing for Ted Cruz – who brought on a $24 billion shut down. That, to them, is an accomplishment?
Yes, Hillary Clinton has accomplishments. You don’t have to like them, but they do, in fact, exist.
being marginalized into the wrong side of history because they are human garbage."
Grade A establishment-democratic hubris and classism.
If you want to convince the more intellectually dubious elements among the progressives (you know, the ones who would have won the election for you if you hadn't spent the entire cycle deliberately alienating them) that both parties are not actually THE SAME MAAAAAN, a good place to start is to not use exactly the same rhetoric to describe the white working class that white nationalists use to describe ethnic minorities. A lot of those e"garbage people" voted for Obama in 2008 and then turned or just didn't vote after 8 years of having their real, often literally life and death concerns completely ignored. It's coming out that a whole lot of black voters in swing states did the same. I don't think both parties are the same, but the Clinton campaign sure spent a whole lot of money trying to convince me otherwise. Anyone who has even the slightest concern about US foreign policy who wasn't utterly disgusted by the rhetoric on display at the convention needs their head checked, because that shit put Reagan and GW Bush to shame for hawkishness.
I'm not even going to get started on the "right side of history" bullshit, but suffice it to say if you really believe your party is God's (sorry, "history's") chosen people and all you have to do is be there, you get Trump.
Of course both parties aren't EXACTLY THE SAME, MAAAAAAAN. But a lot of their surrogates more or less are, and on class issues they're more similar than either of them would publicly admit.

>>>Well I disagree with Pillager. The problem isn't that the Democrats have been lurching to the right since the 1990s, the problem is that the Republicans have had the power to pull things to the right and people blame the Democrats.
YES! YES! YES! Wait, no.
The problem is that Democrats only vote when they feel inspired. Maybe we'll finally learn our lesson this time. I sort of doubt it.
When 14 per cent of the youth vote showed up in 2010, and then six years later the Bernie Babies brag that they represent the youth vote, it's not that impressive. But the Bernie Babies almost made history this year. I'm not talking about the nomination. With some discipline and compromise. the Bernie Babies could have put Hillary over, and then Hillary would have owed Bernie a major cabinet post. They would have some clout. They could have finally given us a real American left. They could have been a force. Instead, they're jack shit.
I'm pretty sure you understood me, but to be clear: Democratic politicians at least show up for work and try to do their jobs conscientiously on the whole. The people who profess to liberal ideals and yet can't be bothered to roll out of bed on Election Day are shit. Not shit people, just shit.
Our government runs on numbers; so what happens when these professed liberals don't elect enough Democrats to push their agenda? Trump, Bush, Republican state legislatures, and so on. Whatever weaknesses one might identify in Democratic campaigns, it is still the job of citizens to vote. Voting is about hiring public officials, not rating the quality of their ads.
|SolRo - 2016-11-21 |
Stop being stupid Pillager.
No, the democrats need to stop being stupid & see what went wrong; The party has been lurching to the right since the 90's. See what that got us?
Do you think anyone you are arguing with here is going to disagree with that? Don't be a dipshit - people are taking issue with the other garbage you are vomiting out.
Well I disagree with Pillager. The problem isn't that the Democrats have been lurching to the right since the 1990s, the problem is that the Republicans have had the power to pull things to the right and people blame the Democrats.
Like, people bitch about the ACA, but the reason we don't have a public option is non-Democrats. The House passed an ACA with a public option, and the Senate failed on the public option only because the 58 Democrats couldn't find two non-Democratic allies to support a public option. Blame Lieberman, or any of the 40 Republicans; they deserve the blame. (Side note, in the House, some Democrats rejected the ACA because it wasn't sufficiently Leftie, even with its public option.)
Sorry Pillager, I guess I was mistaken - turns out you're wrong about everything. and you smell.
And it's never going to get better. Ideologues continue to insist was that the problem was Democrats weren't "pure" enough, and will continue to push protest voting and abstaining as a tactic to get the party to come crawling to them. It's childish going Galt horseshit.
Yet all the activist groups are pushing it. Moveon.org just sent out a survey for their 2017 goals and the very first option is "push the Democratic party into a progressive, populist party".
Populism was how we got Trump. It's the tea party train of thought that all qualified politicians are "insiders" to be purged. It's outright idiocy and nothing will ever improve until it's dead and buried.
Populism is fine. The problem is that it's serving as a code word for focusing on the issues facing only one particular Volk, er, people.
The fact that they're using Trump as vindication for their outlook says all sorts of things they don't intend it to, and yet may be more fitting than they understand.

Speaking as one of those morons, there's a part of me that knows we had it coming. And in spite of the obvious and unattractive hate-boner for Hillary, Pillager is essentially correct about the reasons why. Like I said before, on POE-NEWS, we used to call them pigfuckers.

Clearly the ones to blame with all this racism are the people who objected most strongly to the racism.
It's like how firemen are to blame for all fires, and doctors? Ever notice how they just HAPPEN to be around sick people all the time? Way to invent and cause every disease, DOCTORS.
It's like that time MLK spoke out against white supremacy so they -had to- bring in Jim Crow laws! If only he'd listened to white moderates or tried reaching out to the Alabama KKK rather than being confrontational!
'I will defend to the death your stuff and things, but only if I approve of your tone and manner in doing so' - voltaire or somebody
bawbag -- I seem to recall you're not an American, so there's some history to what you said that you might "enjoy". Going all the way back to the 1860s and our Civil War, the Democrats were the party of racial oppression; Abe Lincoln was a Republican (the first one, really), and the Southern, (formerly) slave-holding states never forgot that. So the South was solidly Democratic for 100 years after that. (The Democrats in the North, who didn't have the same tradition of slavery and oppression to uphold, were not of a like mind; there was plenty of friction between Northern and Southern Democrats.)
The Civil Right Movement of the 1960s led to the US passing the Civil Rights Act in 1964, which went a long way to insuring rights for minorities. It was spearheaded by a Democratic president -- Lyndon Baines Johnson -- and it was widely supported in the North but vastly hated in the South. At the time it was passed, LBJ was heard to say, "we've lost the South for [insert some lengthy span of time]". And indeed that's exactly what we have seen in these subsequent 52 years: the South (and much of the North) rejected the Democrats, the Republicans filled the void and went racist as hell, and the Democrats have been at a disadvantage ever since. So for example, every presidential election this century, the Republicans have run a team completely unfit for office, and still they always get at least 45% of the vote, just by promising to protect "their people" from the Democrats, who are out to protect minorities and nobody else.
Any time someone on the Left claims that the Democrats aren't looking out for the economic interests of whites -- which they might euphemize to "rural America" or "the American worker" -- they're just repeating Republican racist appeals and probably don't even realize it.
Absolutely, they're either ignorant of the southern strategy or think that a dem badge is a magical talisman that means they could never possibly be propping up or supporting that racism in any way!
My ex-wife was from the carolinas, she had a large dose of that sort of unacknowledged racism in her every day thinking/politics etc, needless to say that marriage didn't last long. :P
Good lord, I wouldn't wish a marriage to you on my worst enemy.

I thought it was silly the way rural whites thought that when a billionaire put on a trucker cap, it meant he was one of them. But now I believe they weren't fooled. they simply took it as a sign of respect.
Does Donald Trump, who for years was never photographed outside of a tuxedo, really respect rural America? Who the fuck knows? But that's how much of an effort you have to put into respecting rural America to have them turn out for you in droves.
