Jesus, Billy Dee Williams really let himself go.

This is OK, but human exceptionalism in science fiction annoys me. One example is the Uplift series, where alien races modify unsentient species and use them as servants or allies. Not humanity, though! We're special! We stood on our own!
Especially when it's super-advanced races that need lessons on basic ethics from us. I can understand other species having different perspectives and different priorities, but usually writers go the lazy route of making them stupid as fuck.
"I believe that when we leave a place a part of it goes with us and part of us remains. Go anywhere in these halls, when it is quiet and just listen. After a while you will hear the echoes of all of our conversations, every thought and word we’ve exchanged. Long after we are gone, our voices will linger in these walls for as long as this place remains. But I will admit that the part of me that is going will very much miss the part of you that is staying."
Since it looks like we've had a stay of execution, at least for now, maybe we should all look at how we've acted this last week, when we thought that the end was in the cards, and think on it...
