Of course, true GarPhiles know that, in 1978, the copyright on the comic strip didn't actually say "© 1978 PAWS, Inc." as he claims. The old Garfield strips retroactively had their copyright changed when Jim Davis's company got full control over the Garfield archives.
If he had actually seen that strip in the newspaper when it was first published, the copyright would have read "© 1978 United Features Syndicate, Inc."
