I do remember reading the series, which was written by a pre-DC's Starman James Robinson and it was a nice mix of genres, an ex-Special Boat Service operative and spy turned hardboiled P.I. (a heavy reader who read plenty of Chandler, Hammet, etc.) constantly bumps into members of the seemingly increasing numbers of the superpower and spandex bunch no matter what, and to his chagrin is considered a specialist in the matter of "Ultra" cases.
