Fighting your way out of Paul's apartment building was the highlight of the game to me. It was the only point where combat was a real challenge and should have been the default for every heavily guarded facility you infiltrated.

On my first playthrough, I broke the game.

I was reluctant to use a lot of my high-power goodies, so I was armed for bear when I got off the train from Hell's Kitchen to Battery Park.

I still had a lot of ammo, health, mines and EMP grenades after killing Agent Navarre. When I went up the stairs, Agent Hermann confronted me in a cutscene.

I refused to surrender. Everyone started shooting and I tossed an EMP at the Peacemaker robot which started firing on the UNATCO troops who started shooting back at it. I tossed a few mines around before making a tactical retreat.

I ran back down int the station, healed up and got ready for a fight, but nobody ever came down after me.

It got quiet after a while, so I cautiously went up and found everyone dead. I guess the Peacemaker had managed to kill everyone including Gunther before either exploding from damage or stepping on a mine..

Unfortunately, you had to lose that fight for the story to progress. You wouldn't be killed, merely rendered unconscious and taken back to UNATCO HQ.

But all I could do was wander around Battery Park inside the impassable UNATCO barricades.

I had to reload and throw the fight.
