Enforced art is always bad.
Eg. kids (including me) being forced to read and "appreciate" the poetry of Yeats in English class will mostly learn how to utterly hate it.

I played Myst by choice and loved it. It really is a great game imo. The sequel Riven was even better and I think comes closer to the ideal they were going for (A puzzle game where instead of being trapped in a cunning maze of puzzles created by a mad genius, you are instead just put in a very strange and unfamiliar world and have to figure out normal things, like if a caveman was transported into modern times and had to figure out writing / phones / cars / subway turnstiles etc.)

Tho imo the game "Outer Wilds" takes the Myst idea and *fixes* it. It improves on the Myst formula + takes the big flaws from Myst games and fixes them turning them into boons. Eg. there were some bits of Myst games that stretch ure suspension of disbelief, like there is a small wall u cant go over, are you roleplaying someone in a wheelchair? Whereas in Outer wilds you have total realtime freedom of movement including a jetpack and a physics simulated spaceship.

My dad raged against Myst and all it stood for. He was too busy playing Command and Conquer for that bullshit.
