C'mon Riker, you're snoring four seconds in. Thats just being a dick.

If Data cuts back on the thesaurus a bit, its not that bad a poem.

operation_cannonball - 2007-09-30

Actually the poem is pretty good considering that the guy who wrote it is a fucking robot. You'd think these guys would appreciate ol' Commander Data a bit more.

The most politically correct show ever aired always forgot its inclusiveness doctrine with Data. Instead of celebrating his Android-American ways, it's all sighing, awkward silences, and eye-rolling as he struggles to fit in.

If only they had made a show where Whoopi told a Japanese ensign not to look so grim all the time and knock off all the bowing because it was making the other crew members uncomfortable. Because that's what Data went through every week.

Billings - 2007-09-30

Holy shit you're ridiculously awesome

Billy Buttsex - 2007-09-30

It's because of the way robots have been portrayed by the media on RET (robot entertainment television). Most people don't know real robots, so they get all their stereotypes from tv. Data is the recipient of the behavior resulting from this.

doc duodenum - 2007-09-30

How else will he learn to act human??

Benzene265 - 2007-09-30

I think that was the point. They weren't allowed to have ridiculous caricatures of actual nationalities like the original Star Trek, so they made Data the official Token Not-Us. Discriminating against androids totally isn't racism, right?

Even though he is the token outsider, he's the best character on the show. Data handled Riker's rude interruption with wit and grace, proving that he is indeed superior.

Xenocide - 2007-09-30

I had lunch with Mega Man at Threepio's the other day, and I was amazed at how well the robots were acting. No one was jumping up and going "Provide this unit with additional iced tea, maternal fornicating organic scum!" I think andriod-americans are beginning to think for themselves.

x - 2007-09-30

No, we're not. Xenocide.

theSnake - 2007-09-30

Thats ridiculous, don't get all sanctimonious and act like robots just recently got sentience. They been providin' correct calculations since the 60s, people like you just haven't been listening.

Caminante Nocturno - 2007-09-30

I'm fine with robots, as long as they stay in their own neighborhoods.

boner - 2007-09-30

Riker is an asshole and why doesn't Data just run the whole ship by himself, he could do all their miserable jobs at once.

Smellvin - 2007-09-30

I'm frightened to discover that I still actually remember this, but in this episode Riker was having difficulty sleeping.

Sean Robinson - 2007-09-30

That was the episode where Riker was stuck up all night not getting laid.

Meerkat - 2007-09-30

I think it was the episode where some chick has control of his brain and sneaks into his cabin at night to steal his juices and then he wakes up and his pillow is mostly gone and then Troy comes in and says she's totally not jealous but then she goes back to her cabin and touches herself.

-3 stars for Star Trek: The Next Generation writers killing poetry

Xenocide - 2007-09-30

Livejournal killed poetry, fool. There are actually some pretty clever rhymes in here, and Data's affection for his little buddy is sincere and heartfelt.

Roachbud - 2007-09-30

those nice rhymes make Whitman role in his grave

IrishWhiskey - 2007-09-30

Oh don't worry about that. Whitman's grave is empty. I checked.

Goofy Gorilla - 2007-09-30

The poetry's supposed to be bad. A robot wrote it.

Sean Robinson - 2007-09-30

Robots fucking suck.

Xenocide - 2007-10-01

The irony of criticizing someone's writing while failing to spell the word "roll" is making O. Henry spin in his grave.

Kilo147 - 2010-09-29

For Riker. And not that fuckup Thomas Riker.
